quote: I wonder if its shady or ???
Wrong choice of words. I doubt Ridge is 'shady' as he was breaking down the project for all to see. I think it got more complicated as the Busa is more, 'electronic' and the 14 runs in the, 'digital.'
See how fast the Buas became up and running? Now, don't be calling RR some sort of deal as he sorts out some pretty complex stuff. Sure, it is easy for an EE to follow the circuits. Just let the hindsight run out.

You'd be surprised what you can do without waiting for Ridge LOLOLOLOLOLOL

There is only one book issued to the 14. Each bike uses the same book, same wire harness for diagnosis and wire tracing. Any other shop book for the 14 are supplements for the main book. Every wire enters into the same slot to the wire harness into the same ECU prong. You would assume if they use the same sensor wire prong going in and the other prongs heading in their same slot, year after year, I think the tuning tool will work [i.e.]; from day one till now.

Guys,
Has anyone contacted these guys "dptune"? They are saying on the ZXforums that they are now offering ECU reflashes for the ZX14.
Anyone?

^ John,
Back in December of 2008, I Googled "ECU hacking" and found an underground forum. I was looking for a way to remove the 186mph speed limiter and be able to raise the RPMs past 10.5K, as well as a way for 14 owners to keep the secondary flies open, because some guys were having trouble removing them. (I had mine pulled as soon as I read about it in '07) At the time, one of the forum's top hackers was trying to crack the 14's ECU. After a few months of hacking the hacker couldn't gain access to the ECU and gave up. But I didn't. I kept looking for someone who could reverse engineer the 14's ECU. My search lead me to Piasini Engineering. They're in Italy and we only communicated via email. They told me they could reflash the ECU but they needed my ECU as a core and that my 14's ECU would be the first time they had worked on one. I was a bit hesitant to say the least. (190+mph and the ECU does something goofy??? Hmmm) Piasini was responsive and prompt via email. I thought maybe they could reflash the ECU but in the end I didn't do it because: 1. Back then their website wasn't as nice as it is now which didn't convince me 100% that they could reverse engineer the ECU's software if that was the best html coding they could do. 2. They are in Italy and I'm in Chicago. I didn't want to send $700 (my ECU) to the other side of the globe for some guy to take his girlfriend out on a nice date, never to be heard from again. Piasini was very eager to get their hands on my ECU. 3. Their English was a bit choppy in the emails and I wasn't sure that we fully understood each other or if problems arose that we could fully communicate because I don't speak any Italian! 4. After sitting on the fence I decided to send them my ECU. If all went well I suggested a partnership where they could reflash ECUs and I could act as the exclusive distributor here in the States and a few other countries. They agreed and countered that I buy from them the same equipment that they used to reflash. They would train me and offer 24/7 support if I ran into problems. It sounded fair but I didn't have the cash they wanted to start an exclusive agreement.. 5. Around the same time Muzzy came out with a programmable ECU, http://www.muzzys.com/ZX14/ZX14ECU/index.html. That sealed it for me. If I charged to reflash an ECU and the engine blow up then people would blame me and I'd be liable even if it wasn't the ECU's fault. I figured I'd let Muzzys have the market and any liabilities that came with it!
As for dptune, I have had no dealings with them. However, I just left the other forum and saw dptune's post before logging in here. When I saw ECU Flashing as a topic here it got my attention right away, coincidence? I see that dptune has partnered with Piasini Engineering, and that their prices are better than Muzzys' product of the same offering.
I'm planning to go to Nashville and Miami in April. If I do, I may stop at dptune's shop in Atlanta to get my ECU reflashed. That would kill more than two birds with one stone and save me from having to buy Muzzys' Bonneville Pro speed delimimiter, http://www.muzzys.com/ZX14/ZX14_Bonneville_Pro/index.html.

Thanks for your info. Snat46.
Good know of your experience untill now. I will get my dad to call up Italy since he speaks fluent Italian, plus Italy is much closer for me than the US since I live in Malta (just south of Italy)
Will let you know how it goes.

Wow, its a small world. Cool, I hope it goes well. I'll be listening out to here your results with Piasini Engineering.
I see Italy and Malta on Google Maps. Do you take a boat or airplane to Ispica? Do you then drive to Italy or can you fly to a major city in Italy from Malta?

If I'm not mistaken Ispica is in Sicily. To get to Sicily from Malta you can either go by Catamaran which takes about 1.5 hours or you can which takes about 40 mins. You can then either drive over to Italy by catching the ferry across or fly across from Sicily or you can just fly direct from Malta to a number of airports in Italy.

Is that what he's doing.I been on that site for about 2 years.I saw his posts but I never hit top end so I have no use for it.I will be saving my money for next winter.Want cams headwork and milling the head for more compression.Maybe some injectors or throttle bodies,
