Any 14 using a 525 chain?
If so which chain are you using?

I'm curious too. More curious why anyone would want to. They are for smaller bikes Are the 525s lighter weight?

They would be lighter, but is it worth risking breaking a chain?
Ekzzz is one of the strongest chains I know of, but heavier than the ekdrz2.

I wouldnt risk it if I were racing mine - save weight somewhere else, it would be far less catastrophic

some of the 1000 guys are using 520s with more hp and torque and I dont see why not the 14?

Nothing wrong with a 525 unless u making over 300 IMO. Non-oring will save ya some rotating mass too...Go 4 it..

I bet if you go to EK or DID website it will have HP rating and tensile strengths listed. I would be almost willing to bet that a good 525 chain has more tensile strenght than the OE Kawi chain. I bet you would save 4-5 lbs of rotating mass by switching to a smaller chain. I have tossed this option around before as well.

I explored this too....but the reality is that you might lose 1.5 lbs at the most. Probably 1 lb or less with comparable chains...and maybe an extra 8 oz of savings on the sprockets:

I wouldn't worry about the strength...a good 525 is plenty strong, and a 520 would likely be fine as well. Just inspect and adjust regularly.

12R is a 530 chain, as from the factory.

i would think a ZZZ rated 525 chain would be almost as strong as a 530ZZZ with a little less weight

you can order them!! I buy my sprockets from either driven or vortex!! I have ZX10 wheels and I order 530 sprockets for them!

Cool! I've never seen a 14 with anything but a 530 setup.

When I did my research on chain and gearing the chain pitch idea came up. There were about 2 guys who suggested going to 525 pitch. One used a DID chain.
I like the idea of a light weight drive line. Sure seems like 1.5 lbs would be a worthwhile decrease from the nealy 7 lbs of sprocket and chain I have going on. This is rotating mass, remember and the chain spans quite a large horizontal diameter. Larger diameter rotation = greater magnification of weight. I suppose the chain is a special situation because It does not spin around a perfectly circular course.
Stil in all, I'm glad I stuck to 530 pitch. I am going up 4 teeth in back and I am expecting this to make a large difference in the amount of force placed on the chain. If I switch back to stock gearing or just 1-2 up in back, I'll likely try 525 pitch sprockets and chain.
I have not yet heard of anyone breaking a chain. Warnings, yes--but never reported to have actually happened. I would be willing to try a chain pitch that is used on some of the newer 1000 track bikes like the BMW or the ZX-10.
