Getting fuel out of the tank.
How are you folks doing it?
On my other bikes I just using a bulb pump but the 14 has a sharp ledge through the neck that peels a layer of plastic off my hose and I'm concerned about the debris.
I tried a rubber hose and it still scrapes off a layer, not the whole length but in sections.
Thanks,
Dan

I have a tiger tail so I can access the bottom pretty easy. I have taken the hose off and cycled the pump

I cut the hole in the tank out bigger, there are two slots front and back of the whole I used a pair of tin snips and cut them out. Then I used a big bar to roll the ages down and over don't touch the sides because that's where your gas cap locked in. It works a lot better especially if you have one of those gas bottles with a big hose on the end. Then I tilt it over on the kickstand and put a 4X4 block under the rear wheel and use a plastic hose to stifle it without. It works pretty good I can usually get almost all of it out.

Ive been doing the old rubber sqeeze ball siphon method like you, oldkawboy. That splash guard in the gas filler neck is very sharp on the edge. I've been very careful the couple times I've had to siphon because I too have been concerned about possible shavings.
We have no fuel filter. I hear there is a fine screen in the tank but it is not easily removable like an inline fuel filter would be.
What I have decided to do next time I need to siphon is to insert a larger tube that will reach below the splash guard. That will stay put while run the siphon tube through it. The scraping of the tube really only happens when I work the siphon tube around to find the gas. The larger tube should pretty much eliminate any contact between the splash guard and the siphon tube.

hey Dan, on my 12 i just pulled the hose from the inlet to the rail and pumped it out.
rather than keep cycling the pump with the key, i put a pigtail on the pump that hooked up to my battery charger.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and ideas.
I tried what Rook stated and it worked great. I don't have to do this but two or three times a year following a LSR event when I run a VP fuel.
Once again, I appreciate the PM's and help.

COOL! Thanks for testing the idea. I'll have to try that one soon. Need to go into airbox to block off clean air hose hole pretty soon. Bike is up on stands for winter so no running the tank dry with a long ride.

As a matter of fact I just drained my tank last night. Had gas in it from three months ago and I couldn't remember if I had put stable in this bike, plus I needed gas in my car cause I hadn't got my paycheck yet, lol. The tank and fuel line was already off so I just hooked the line back up to the tank and jumped a wire from that little unknown pigtail under the seat to the yellow-red stripe wire on the tank harness and turned on the ignition. Oh yeah, I had the other end of the line in a gas can, lol. Took about five minutes to drain half a tank and nothing got spilled!
Now that's exciting!
I don't know how handy that method would be if I DIDN'T already have the tank and fuel line off the bike, however.

Speaking of that method, it would probably be wise to add for those who aren't so smart/lucky, that you should make any electrical connections before turning on the juice so as not to produce a spark in close proximity to an open gas tank or dripping fuel line!

+1 on the explosion hazard of draining gasoline.
The service manual recommends disconnecting the battery - terminal but that would actually present a hazard. Could def cause a spark, couldn't it?
