Epd, never removed the packing. Kind of like the "not so loud" thing. Great pipe though...

From the Picture it looks like the DB killer that bolts in via a small hex head is still in the pipe. You should give it a try with it removed, its really not louder until you really hammer it. I really like the pipe also, its been great.
