factory battery lasted 4 years
We had a warm day here in middle Tennesee last friday (New Years Eve) and I made plans to go riding with my buds...well, sad to say my battery went kaput and I was stuck at home with dead ZX-14 :-( I was surprised to see my factory battery last 4 years, but I should have been prepared and had a new one on hand, but I didn't. I got it replaced now though, but looks like i missed my chance to ride until spring arrives!

The battery on my 06 is still working perfectly, I always plug it into an Optimate between rides.

Cold weather zaps the charge fast on old batterys. I changed mine out when I noticed the crank over slowed down after 4 years also.

Going on 3 years here and seems good as new.
Do these things normally give any warning signs when they are ready to calf or do they just die and leave you stranded?

Well, I noticed it was cranking over slower a few months ago, but I never got around to ordering one. When you notice it cranking slower, go ahead and get one and put it aside for when it goes kaput.

My 06 is working fine but when they go it usually is with no warning. I think I will try a lithium for the weight reduction (up high) and no acid. The factories do give you quality parts as delivered, the chains last forever. LSL

Anyone heard of the Shorai Lithium batteries?
Supposed to be something different than the old lithiums. This one might work in cooler temps.

Mine lasted 3 years . It could have lasted longer I believe if I plugged my battery tender whenever she sits but I never did. That battery lived a hard life of about 50k miles . It got completely discharged 3 times and came back strong. In the end the battery had 12 but a weak 12 volts left in it and would not start my bike properly anymore.

My '08 battery was 3 years old Oct 2010 ( sold in Oct '07 ) -- still crankin' good but it gets hooked up to the battery tender every winter........they definitely helps prolong the life of a battery -- got one on my bike, my wife's bike, my mower, and a spare I share between our vehicles...........jesus, now that I think about it - I should've bought stock in that company!!

4 Years is a very long time. Just looked through my history of all the VFR's and the best was my 2002 VFR lasting 37 months. The 2007 VFR went 25 months before it's battery bit the dust. Note both bikes were just a little over 40,000 miles when the battery died.
Interesting that my 1993 ZX-6 battery lasted a little under 5 years, I wonder if Honda's just draw more power??
Rob
2002 VFR still has issues 120,681 miles
2009 VFR 7,652 miles

Might want to consider this. It's new. Don't know anyone who has used one but might be the perfect thing for relieable street use with significantly reduced weight.

Thanks for the post Rook. I was just looking at that. And $153 is a lot better than the $250 I have been seeing for the Speedcell.
Anyone have any experience with these batteries?
I know I saw a thread about batteries a while back but I can't find it again.

my oem battery lasted 4 years and two months. one day i went to start it, and it hesitated and my clock reset. i waited a few seconds and it started and i rode it that night. i replaced it the next day. i do use a battery tender jr. between rides. it has an external connector that is easy to install and easy to keep your battery fresh. i replaced my battery with one from cycle gear for 89 that is guaranteed for life. free replacement when it goes(as long as cycle gear stays in business.
