Reed Block Offs for the G2

I have been told that The G2 ZX-14 will throw a code if the PAIR is removed. Ivan sells a reed valve block off kit that includes a couple of electrical clips----apparently to maintain some sort of signal to the ECU---so the code is not triggered.

Muzzys reed valve block off is the same kit for 06-10 ZX-14s. No electrical connectors at all AFAIK.

Has anyone installed the Muzzys reed valve block off kit on a G2 and did you have any codes come up?

Generation 2. '08-'10

Anyone have Muzzy's block off plates on one of those? Any FI lights come on?

Did you ever have the opportunity to compare the PAIR systems of the G1 and the G2?

Ivan sells an 06-07 block off kit and an 08-present kit. The 08-present kit is $10 more. I saw a pic of his kits and the 08-11 had a couple of electrical clips included that the 06-07 did not. Ivan's 08-present block off plates "include fix for FI light."

Ivan's website see AK-KAW3 06-07 ZX-14 and AKKAW3a 2008 and up - both near bottom of page:

why not just reach in and disconnect the valve and see if it sets a FI light. If it doesnt, then just buy the muzzy plates. its easy to reach.....

I would do that but the bike is stored for winter. Hate to start it up during storage. Hopefully someone can give me the story. Somebody must have a Gen 2 with block off plates.

Thank you Leoldas!!!!

Can anyone second the Muzzy reed valve block off plates on an '08-'10 ZX-14??? No FI light tripped after disconnecting and removing the PAIR unit??

What do you mean by "Capped," dakota? Does it entail disconnecting all wires and pulling off the PAIR unit? That would be the thing that would trip the FI light. If that actually happens -- which I am starting to doubt.

When I installed my Brock's exhaust, it tells you to remove the emissions stuff and cap the orifices where hoses were connected. And the plug that was on the emissions stuff is just left there.

Thanks Dakota. Sounds like you have a more thorough Pair block to mine. I just stuck a dowel in the clean air hose and shoved it back in the airbox. The solenoid is still there on top of the reed valves but no air can get through. Any wires that may be hooked up there are also still in place.

Got an email from Curt at Muzzys and he said they are not aware of any problems with FI light being tripped by installing there block off plates.

Leonldas has his reed valves blocked off and his 09 throws no code.

Also have a fellow member at zx14ninjaforums who has a silver 08 with block off plates and no codes thrown.

I'm not sure what Ivan is doing with his Gen 2 block off plates kit which includes wire clips??????? To fix FI error code?????

I'm buying Muzzys.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'm sure this one has been put to bed.

I removed the pair system on my bandit and made my own block off plates. I think it will be just as easy on the 14. I also found these on ebay https://www.tpoparts.com/cat093/index.php?route=product/product&path=83&product_id=60.

My '08 is the same way.........plastic caps included with SMeg system to plug the airbox / hoses -- no blockoff plates on mine

Thank you swiftnet. JMHO--I guess this is one of the lesser important mods but those plates look like something stamped out of sheet metal. The add says they were CNCed billet but they look flimsy. Maybe they are thicker than they look in the pic. Hope they sit flush to mounting surface or you will be sucking some air. Looks like they come with some kind of rubber caps? dont know what those are unless they are to block airbox hole.

Don't mean to be an ass fellas just stating my O. I have valued both of you guys' opinions for a long time ......but those bo plates you guys ordered sota are sucky. :0

They are block off plates.... they don't need to be cnc'ed out of billet aluminum.... Good luck with your purchase

Do they look like they are going to do their job?

Muzzys is $47. Yeah, that's a lot more but they are pretty and they come with a billet airbox plug.....and I've spent so much time researching this that it has cost me at least a $100 in time. OH well, this is fun stuff.

Interesting... cause I need to get an airbox plug... I may have to cancel my other order.

edit: nope, I guess I don't need the airbox plug, it was included in my turbo kit. Thanks for the heads up. Good luck with whatever you do. I found out the cheap ones are .090" thick aluminum. They aren't billet, but they are cut, not stamped.

I have heard of people just using a regular bolt/flat washers and a nut with locktight. That seems like that would work to seal the clean air hole under the airbox. Maybe even pick up a neoprene lined washer or some kind of rubber gasket from Lowe's.
