Chad, you have to think about the fact that anyone who is turning 1.7's is a piss poor rider so they're probably either not in the groove, or they're tossing the clutch and shocking the tire. I agree that on the drag strip, chassis and clutch setup are worth their weight in gold... but for the average test and tune street rider, it's worth more to have a spare wheel with a tire that will hook than a shock and clutch that isn't worth a shit on the street.

The longer you stretch it the less it's gonna hook on the street.

The guys that rather race on the street, well, that shows how smart they are.

My question for the guys that are belevers in the Hookup tire is does it mph higher than 008 slick , and even the 003 u-soft ? Seems like if it will work on my swb bike with stock or higher gearing , it would pick up mph in the 1/4 mile !

i liked the 003 it would last forever for me and is cheap the only reason i went to the 008 is because i do alot of street racing and what not so i want something that will hook when i need it to...

i also ran a couple hookups and they worked good too i had to lower the PSI down to what i would run in the 003 and it would not last for ME like the other tires did and its still a cheap tire as well if i were a class racer that would be the tire that i would use no doubt

I think your 008 slick is more round isn't it? I'm not sure. my buddy dropped no mph switching from a power race to a hookup but he did not gainany either, I don't think I would expect any mph from it. but tnt I'm being honest it hooks on every bike we have it on. from swb to 65 inches. but the post above about shocking the tire is right on the money. not saying you are but I had a buddy that always raced a bar bike with slick. just pin it and throw the lever away well when he started riding his busa at 64 inches all he did was blow the tire off we where all hooking and running low 1.40 60ft s and he blew the tire off every pass. he switched to an 003 and same thing. I tried to tell him to be smooth leaving and quit shocking the tire that he was on a no bar street tire bike. he told me to try something was wrong with his shock. first pass I went 1.45 and 9.23 come back and said here it works just fine. took him 3 months to figure out how to leave and no he hooks like the rest of us. you always seem like a darn good rider so not sure if that's what you where doing or not.

if he's turning 1.40's he's not shocking the tire. Wheelie was around when he was having trouble out of his hook up too. I could turn low 1.4's on my 003, but I was sliding the clutch just past the tree launching at 7k with 16/46 gearing and a 13.8kg/in spring that everyone said wouldn't work but i had great luck with. i know plenty of people running penske's and ohlins that aren't putting down any better 60ft's than that. Like has been said. If the track prep is awesome then a hook up will hook. if it's shitty, forget about it.

Also, no stretched bike will hook on the street. I'll take a swb 14 and walk on any stretched 14 with comparable mods from a dig all day long.

you know gen 2 busa's have a special feature that they can leave pretty hard on the street stretched? So you could have your hands full on a swb 14 or busa against a stretched gen 2 rider who knows how to use it!

ive had wheels up hooking at 63" on my 14 on the street... stretched bikes can and will hook on the street with the right set up.

I have heard alot of great things about the hook up. I know at our local track you can run more tire pressure in the hook up than the P1.

i havent rode the booza since its been stretched so im not sure how it will hook on the street with the 008.

but the others have been between 60"-63" and that was on my 14 i would run the air as low as 6psi to get them to hook tho, but the bike was making 300+ hp as well but it never really dead hooked at that power it would always spin some but at last it had forward motion lol
