You got major issues in the bottom,or some fancy camera action going on LOL
Hope im wrong but looks expensive to me..........

You can send your motor to Mr. Eason here and he will get you another motor. You might not know what size it is, or who's motor, but you will get another one. And don't pay for it up front.

GLAD ITS TAX SEASON.....Did exactly what richcraft said this morning...17mm nut on the generator side and guess what...

3 pistons moved, #3 piston just stayed there looking at me. At this point im glad i didnt spend anymore $$ trying to fix the head cause when my tax $$ gets here its time for another motor. What are used motors going for these days $1500?? What are some things to look out for when buying a used motor? Less than 25 passes on this motor...WOW

Lee please send your $5 check to richcraft..

Used motors go from 1500 to 3000 average price 2200. obviously you would like to get a low mileage motor. But location can be big! average shipping cost $250 and what will it look like when it gets there? It's always better if you can drive there and hear the motor run before you buy it.

If it didn't throw threw the cases then it should be repairable. Good time to stroke it!

Looking back at the pictures #1 #2 Pistons were also hitting the head. Any time you increase RPMs you also increase Rod Stritch. Looks like the thinner gasket along with the extra RPMs let the piston to hit the head. Own your next motor I would recommend not extending the RPMs it will not help that much or not run the piston to head clear so close Good luck.

Fella's, this was a good read and way to find out what was really wrong with 08greens motor. You're the first person who I have heard that actually tried the rpm increase through Guhl motors.
Hope you get things back together like you want them.

I paid 1700 for a used 06 stock motor. That was the cheapest I found.

How could the bike have all of that damage and all you noticed was a slight power loss? I imagine you should have heard some banging and knocking???

UPDATE:
Good news: Jim is sending me some valves. Bad news: At least 1 valve guide is shot(had to use a punch to get #3 ex. valves out) 1 guide is cracked at the bottom. I did pull the ex. valves from the next cylinder over and they were ok. So i need 2 guides...Also the shims and retainers for #3 were all beat up as if it was spitting them out then being forced back in when the valve opened.

Jim what do you charge to replace 2 valve guides? My new theory is I simply was a dumb ass and overrevved the bike with my raised rev limit(guhl motors) I know i revved it to at least 12.5k on 4-5 passes the trip before she blew up..I thought my HD valve springs would make it ok..i guess not..note to self..shift @ 10.8k and LIVE.

Thoughts?
Rev to 12500 four or five passes ? Dude it's not a BMW 1000RR !!! I would say 10800 or even 11000 would not be a problem with good Valve Springs .. BUT 12500 !! It's a wonder to me that you don't have a hole in the block the size of your clutch cover ... You are a lucky guy , Ricky Gadson wasn't so lucky when his popped and he took a slide in hot oil at 160 MPH ...Thank your lucky stars that you only need a motor ..

I called Guhl motors and spoke with them BEFORE I shelled out $400 for the ECU mod. They told me that they have sold many of the modded ECUs to the car kit guys that shift at 12.5k for a zx14 motor, I took their word. Then i called my builder and asked him. He said he never dealt with 1 before.. I have carpenter springs BTW. It was 1/8 mile...so 2 shifts..The bike was slow on that very first pass tho..

i know how that goes ..and then when something don't work its always the owners fault ..

I'm curious as to why you would want to raise the limited that high anyway? The fastest drag bikes don't have theirs raised. There's got to be a reason they don't shift at 12,500...

Well there are few and i'm one of them that believe rasing it can be helpfull .. What i Believe is there is a soft limiter before you hit the hard limiter .. The soft limiter hits or starts around 10200 but cutting fuel .. At 10600 the hard limiter kicks in and kills spark .. It very hard to feel the soft limiter .. It has the feeling of the motor going flat line ( no more or very slow pull ) It is easier to feel in the top gears and not so much in the lower gears ...The dyno runs also show this , the engine flat lines around 10000 ..I allways felt it was the head flow or cams giving out but looking at the flow numbers and cams specs that is not a problem ... So testing on my own dime i tried a lower shift point , using 10800 Vs what i had always used before 11200 and i picked up MPH and some ET ..Remember 10800 and 11200 shift points was using were from the factory tach reading and we know the tach is off .. So 11200 is realy 10600 ... So by shifting at 10800 on my factory tach i was really shifting at 10200 or so .. 10200 runs faster because i'm not hitting the soft limiter .. Now if you raise the limiter 600 RPMs you take the soft limiter out of play and should be able to see some gain even on a stock motor .. I have not tried to raise my limiter yet , so i don't know if this is a true fact ... BUT what i can tell you from reports from Maxton it does work ... Chad was having problems on his ZX14 busting the 200 MPH mark , The bike was geared right to do over 200 MPH but just would not do it .. He had RPM left but the bike would stop pulling because it was touching the soft limiter ... By swapping one tooth in the rear he lowered his RPMs under the soft limiter and the bike went over 200 the rest of the runs .. Data logs from Roys bike showed the same thing happening at the same RPMs ... I believe the soft limiter is to slow in the motor just a bit so you don't wack the hard limitier so hard and so fast that it will float a valve and pop a shim out ..
Again i have not tested it myself ,I only tested the lower shift point to try to stay off the soft limiter ..When my shoulder heals and i can ride my bike i will try it .. My thinking is my bike will go faster shifting at 10600 to 10800 than it did at 10200 ..

Interesting smokin, i haven't heard that.
With that being said, my shift light is set for 10,500 and I remember one run when I shifted a bit early and it ran just as fast, if not faster. I thought it was a fluke and I didn't try it again.

we shift pretty low as well -- i have my light at 10200 on motor and 9800-10000 on spray depending how hard we hit it -- dads car tire bike stock bore and stroke and our head work shifts at 9500 with a 60 shot and runs 7.70's all day -- they seem to like thelower rpms.

i don't know what cars run the 14 motor -- guhl does a lot of mini sprint and micros that have some crazy high rpms but i have never heard of a 14 that high --like the other said -- i would say your lucky not blowing a hole in the cases

and carpenter single springs leave a little to be desired in my opinion

You are right about the SS bikes. I was eves dropping on one of RGs conversations in the pits and he says that if you miss a shift with the SS bikes its good bye motor.

Smokin is correct, shave off 1or 2 sides of the countershaft nut ,and the motor will pull hard to the hard limiter, if u dont believe try it on a dyno stock nut v shaved and watch the power and fuel curve!!

I wasn't saying that rpm's was a bad thing. Anytime you raise the rpm's you increase the airspeed in the intake. the faster the airspeed the more intake charge you get when the intake valve opens. The thing is you have to match this to your engine size and valve Speed capability and clearances. We shift our bikes at 10800. Sometimes it's not so much about the 10800 as it is the 9000 that it drops down to when it shifts. the larger the intake system is the more you have to raise rpm's to keep the airspeed up.

No sir. At this point im going to get another motor. Hopefully my cases are ok, then i will start a 2MM build later on with the extra top case. Yesterday a buddy of mine gave an extensive hands on class about lash, PTV, and degreeing cams on a zx14 motor. This stuff is so exciting!!
