BLEW my motor last night

It was bound to happen, but im still abit baffled as to why.... Let me run down the engine mods:

Web cams, jims stg 1 head, HD valve springs, put together by a great engine builder whom shall remain nameless cause i dont want to drag his name thu the mud.

Basically the engine was built last summer with light weight wheels and ran fairly strong. Like 125-128 in the 1/8 on pump gas in TX . I weigh 170unsuited. Basically i ran the bike in the 1/8 mile a few months ago and it was slow as shit like 119mph and barely a 6.01..WTF.

Then last night after a fresh oil change and fresh MRX01, at the track i get teched-in and check my oil level only to notice my oil glass was "milky" Hmmmm.. i thought head gasket could be blown,,, made a pass(which i shouldnt have) bitch went 6.3@111mph and was knocking on the return road...cut off engine. Drained oil this morning.Oil had no shavings and looked good.

Several people say it is prolly a valve keeper popped out, but my question is why would a blown head gasket pop a keeper? Thoughts?

Well the milky oil could just be do to the cold temps and not completely warming up the motor .. Mine does that this time of year .. Chad had the same problem last year .. ZX14 just don't have head gasket problems ... If you spit a shim your HP will be down as well as a ticking sound or rapping sound ... I have seen more than a few spit shims ... First pull the Valve cover and have a look see .. If a shim is out just pop it back in a you are good to go ... Drain the oil ( HOT ) and replace with fresh oil ... It will take some riding to remove or burn off the water in the oil ... You have to ride these bikes to full warm up this time of the year or this will happen again ..

X2 I was worried as hell about the white stuff. Put it in direct sun with the oil cap off after you have ran it for a while and it should clear up.

Mine was milky yesterday at the track. After a few passes I took a look and it was gone.
If you had water in the oil you would have seen it when you drained it.

Its funny cause this morning when i pulled the oil, no white stuff....(motor was warmed up , but rather hard to start too) But i wonder why the knocking with HD valve springs/ jims zx12 cam chain mod too and no other signs....i had the 0 weight brock oil(alisyn)..

When the bike slowed down a few months ago there was no knocking sound..it was just slow, but hot too that day on pump gas..

If the shim get wedged sideways you will lose power on one hole and make NO sound .. So you are running on 3 holes and not all four ...If you kept riding that way the shim may have popped all the way out making the ticking or rapping sound you are hearing now.. Pull the Valve cover and take a look .. Stop guessing .. If you have heavy springs with your cams you might what to give Jim a call and ask him what up ...

If you have heavy duty valve springs it's not likely you spit a shim. Most of the time that comes from floating the valve. And that's hard to do with heavy springs. I would do a leak down the motor. If you don't have that equipment? do a compression check. It should have between 190 and 220 psi. Take all the spark plugs out and spend the motor with the throttle wide open, but if that knocking was coming from the bottom in I would pull the oil pan and look at the rods. If it has a spun rod bearing it's easy to spot they usually turn black around the bottom of the rod. If you grab hold of the bottom of the rod and shake it it usually has more slack. Most 14th knockout # two and # three rod bearing. Most people believe it's because of the oil pressure and that could be? but I know in my case it was detonation. The number one killer to the number three rod bearing. Cylinders two and three run hotter because they're inside. But in my case it was because the nitrous was to lean, and not pulling enough timing out. After I fixed these problems I had no more rod bearing problems. I hope this helps. Ken

If he has HD springs and they are set up correctly .. If he pull lock though a retainer... Lot of ifs ... That why i said pull the valve cover first and take a look .. If all is good on top pull the pan .. Rule one : always go the last place that was worked on .. In this case the head ..

5 bucks it's not a rod .. Remember last time the motor was touched was for head work .. He said he drained the oil and no gold or silver flakes ..MPH dropped from 126 to 119 Hummmmm sounds like it running on 3 holes and not 4 ..

You don't have to drop the motor to remove the valve cover..

i'm betting a shim on the exhaust side -- we have spit them with kibblewhite springs and APE springs -- so far we've been lucky and not hurt anything.
