Slipper clutch on the 2011's?
I saw a review where the guy was commenting on the "slipper clutch" in a 14.
Do the 2011's have a slipper clutch now?

Maybe the guy doing the review is just an idiot. He also says that the 14 doesn't need 6 gears, that the majority of people riding it would only need 5 or maybe even 4, I don't think he knows the typical 14 rider...lol

noob question here...I had the slipper clutch on my 10 and loved it. So why would this be a down fall on a 14?

Definetly a noob question!! Why would anyone go to the expense tp put a slipper on a sport touring bike? Think about it.

Pontiac the slipper clutch is a great thing for road racing but since the 14 has much more a dragracing following the slipper is just something that one would pay for and then rip it out as soon as you get the bike home and begin to get it ready for the strip. I would think the reporter is mistaken and this is a misprint, I think Kawasaki is very aware of the fact that these bikes are going to the strip and being sport toured.

Not everyone drag races. Hell I'd bet less than 10% of the 14's ever sold see a dragstrip. Slipper is cool even just riding hard on the street. Would be cool to see it on the 14. I'd really like to see them redesign it and it drops a little weight and adds a few horses before I buy another 14. I do love the current 14's though.

The slipper is an engine saver for canyon carvers. Downshifts at high rpms wont carry the motor through the redline.

Don't get it twisted...may be new to the 14 but not to street bikes. Like others said, not everyone drags. But kind of like what you said its a sport TOURING bike, pretty sure the touring guys would like the slipper clutch. May not be for everyone but once again, ain't nothing money can't fix.

Considering you have to be going over 80 mph to go into redline in first gear, itwould be pretty hard to carry the bike past redline in first. When I was really cornering hard, I would never go to first.

Ducati did it on their 150 HP Multistrada sport tourer. From what I've seen, everybody seems to like it, but to each his own.
It's true that the 14 is less of a carver and more of a straight line speed demon. Maybe that's why. Who knows?

Why not just put a Jake Brake on the 14 & The Busa ???
That would sound real cool with a aftermarket pipe without a baffle

I love that sound! Slipper clutches are more about not locking up the rear tire & skidding it entering corners hard after downshifting than keeping it out of redline.

There is no need for a slipper clutch on a ZX 14 the intended use the majority of riders use their ZX 14's for combined with the experience of the owners who ride them would make that a moot point........the majority would not want or need a slipper clutch it would actually be a negative rather than a positive for many..........slippers are for the little bikes that race on a track that and less experienced riders.

It is for both of those reasons really. There are many warranty claims on blown engines that are more than likely downshift over revs. But you guys are right, the main benefit is to have a fully connected tire to track and limited engine to tire connection when braking.

All I know is that I dont want a slipper clutch, ABS or traction control on a ZX 14............put that money into the engine and chassis in my opinion they are at best unneccessary and at worst unwanted for the intended audiences of this bike.

If you would want a slipper clutch your certainly entitled to your opinion..........however as to your other bikes have it I would counter that 125 and 250 2stroke motocross bikes have powervalves and the 500's dont which is in my mind the same type of thing as the 600's and 1000's having slipper clutches and the big bore ZX 14 not needing it cause its not really a closed course track bike............the tiny percentage of owners who would actually use it as a closed course track bike can install a slipper clutch rather than the majority of owners paying for something they dont want or need then paying again to remove and replace.

I didn't realize that all those Busa riders were doing that. It's news to me. Somebody must be getting rich selling all those non-slippers to the Busa guys.
Oh well, wish it was me.

Hey JPOOCH, as I stated before your certainly entitled to your own opinion but your not entitled to your own set of facts...........go reread my post again and tell me exactly where I EVER said "ALL" Busa oners are replacing their clutches...........thats YOUR strawman not my words!!!..........Many who drag race Busa's do modify their clutches though and that is a fact.
What I stated and not only did you not refute it but actually seemed to agree in an earlier post was that for the Zx 14's intended audience and use a slipper clutch is not really wanted or needed.......the overwhelming majority of ZX 14's are used for sport touring and drag racing 2 areas where a slipper clutch are likely not wanted or needed and only adds to the cost of the bike unneccessarilly.........I'm willing to bet if you surveyed ZX 14 owners and asked them if they would prefer to pay a few hundred dollars more for a slipper clutch or ABS or traction control or either pay less or have that R&D money go into the engine the response would be overwhelming.
I'll bet less than 3% ever use their Zx 14's on a closed course track where a slipper clutch would be a big benefit vs the 97% plus who use it for sport touring and dragracing.
