Clutch slipping?

So today I installed a muzzy advancer and when I was loosening the retaining nut(in first gear with rear brake fully engaged) the crank would still spin. It didn't spin freely but did spin just before the nut broke loose. Is this normal?

Sorry need to clarify it ONLY did this when I was trying to loosen the nut but when I was reinstalling(clockwise) it would stop cranking. But loosening it it would just keep on spinning. It is because it is in first that counterclockwise just keeps spinning? Other people said they did not have this problem.
