KN-204 in an '09 ZX-14?

So, didn't double check the filter the performance shop gave me. Just niticed it's a KN-204 and not the KN-303 that I normally run.

Checking specs on K&N website reveal same specs between both filters, the KN-204 is just 10mm shorter.

Whats that going to do to/for me?

Well, I went ahead and used the KN-204.

Judging from what I found in older 2006 threads, the shorter filter just means a bit less filter material, so shorter miles between oil changes.

That's ok be cause I'm trying full Synth Maxima to see how it does. I'll probably switch to trying out Mobil-1 full synth and a Purolator filter next.

Shorter by 10mm which way? Length or height? If it's leaving a gap, you're setting yourself up for the ram air to push something possibly catastrophic through the engine...

I think he means the oil filter not the air filter.

You will be fine. Even so the KN303 is not for your bike either because its an automotive filter if I am not mistaken.

The 303 is just a little taller than the 204. You can run either but some people have clearance issues so they opt for the 204. No problem running either one.

Just to clear things up a bit ... the KN-303 is NOT an automotive oil filter. A look at the vehicle application chart for the KN-303 shows all motorcycles.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?Prod=KN-303

A look at the specs for each oil filter shows they are exactly the same except for height.

'06 owners were running the KN-204 but I could not find any threads saying if there were negative aspects of doing so.

It's good to know we have a "workable" alternative if we ever encounter a shop on the road that doesn't carry the KN-303.

Have any of you ever used the superTech filter sold by Wal-Mart? I read an extensive report

and comparison about those a couple years back and they seem to be better than most.

They also come in two different lengths that will fit the 14.
