Racing in 2011????

How far do you guys have to travel to race locally?
Here in the Midwest we are supposedly losing our track Gateway International Raceway to the economy and poor track management... We have a ton of cars and bikes in our area, not sure where everyone will go race.... I have been thinking about how far I'm willing to travel to continue with this hobby. I am so used to having a local track where I can test and tune and get seat time throughout the year.

The next closest 1/4mile tracks to us is roughly 4.5 to 5 hours.
(KCIR) Kansas City, MO
(Route 66) Joilet, IL
(Cordova Raceway), Cordova, IL
(Byron Dragway) Byron, IL

There are some 1/8mile tracks but the closest is 1.5hours...

This aint motivating me to freshen my motor up and get ready for next year.

Slowest track? Get much worse than 7000+ DA at 30-60% humidity?

Might be time to switch over to track riding. Plan on getting myself a cheap 600cc over the winter ready for track days next year. I'm sure you guys have done a track day before but if you haven't it's a blast.

I feel your pain, Memphis motorsports was 15 minutes from my house, and they closed it down and put it on the market last year. I only made 1 (1/8 mile ) pass all year. 68" turbo zx14 just not as much fun on the street. 1/8 mile track is about 1 hour away. Maybe I'm spoiled but it didn't do it for me. Looking at a pc800 or Harley so I can keep my clean record.

I have an 1/8mile track 20 min. away and 2 more 1/8 45 min. away. "The Drity MO" 1/8 mile is only 1h and 20 mins. zmax is an hour away, and my home town is planning on building a new 1/4 mile. I guess I'm lucky to be in SC. The compatition between tracks motivates the own to prep the tracks. The down side is it is easy to take a "L" around here becuase there are alot of fast bikes that TNT @ different tracks.

Here in Alabama tracks are everywhere. But I will have to say Barbers which is less than an hour away has track days. A bunch of guys from work have bought up 600cc sportbikes and it looks like a lot of fun. I might have to give that a try. Currently I am looking at getting a 1997 Dodge Viper GTS. My wife is throwing a fit about it but it is cool. After a test drive it kinda has the same thrill factor as a bike. Maybe I will switch back to cars.
