SCORE!!!!!!!!! Lucky today

I was at the local H-D looking for a 6-speed conversion for the Road King. One of the mechanics I know asked if I wanted to buy a Busa motor that had a Bad trans. in it for $250 dollars. Seems his friend had bought the bike and killed the trans. instead of fixing it they just bought a whole motor for it from the local Salvage yard. Seems Splitting the cases on an inline 4 is more than he wanted to take on. I said yes and went and picked it up this week but had not had time to look at it good. Well, Today I decided to uncover it and get it ready to go under my bench when I saw a machined name on the back of the head. I quickly pulled the paper towels out of the intakes and sure enough it's a Carpenter Race engines ported head. I have not taken it off yet to see if it has bigger valves but I will. Here is a pic of what is on the back of the cylinder head.

Here is the port

I went ahead and bought some Ebay Ext. 3"-9" for the 03 1000. Plus I got a Ti Force off of local Craigslist for $350. It's for the 07-08 so I can't run the oilcooler, I had to use a by-pass. But it will be fine for a street cruiser. The 08 wiring harness was a pain in the butt to route.

Ha! thats a good one Shane. I have had my share of bad luck also, The only reason I was up there is because I hurt the Road King Trans again. Had the Busa Head said Screaming Eagle on it I never would have got it I didn't get a chance to pull the head off yet. maybe it has a 1397cc kit too? I got to quit trying to ride the H-D like a sportbike. The 750 subframe is the same I think on 03-04 & 1000's. The 05-06 is the same 07-08 are the same. The 750's I think are the same in those years. hope that helps/ I remember people putting 600 and 750 bodywork on 1000's.

Your right, You have to cruise the H-D. Me and a Buddy were running each other and fooling around. 30 ft. black marks from red lights, You can't speed shift a H-D. the trans. is one cog up from a Briggs&Stratton but they are easy to fix. You can change out the gear set, forks and shift drum in less than an hour without pulling the motor. But with 60K on it and the only failures are owner induced it has not been a real bad bike. I like it.
