Anyone ever stack risers?
I currently have the 3/4 Heli-risers. I was thinking about getting a 2nd set of Genmars which are an inch or a second set of Heli-riser and stacking them with some new longer bolts. Anyone ever do this?

No I've never seen any one do that.
I think there wouldn't be enough support for the 2nd set cause 1 set uses the fork tube as support.
If they were welded together I think it would work.

Yes , I stacked em for Bawls (Craig Christ ) for his trip back to San Diego from Paris Texas . I had already lowered his bike 3/4 in front , , and had to get some new bolts , and also had to relocate the frt brake fluid reservoir to keep it from hitting his touring shield ! I also put soft grips on for hand relief ! He made the trip in two days , and said it worked well ! Go for it epd !

I considered the LSL kit but then I wont be able to use my GPR stabilizer. I think I might just get some high grade bolts and stack them for a while. As usual Thanks for the assistance...

LSL Match Clip ons:
I think it cost me $150
1" closer, 1.5" higher, and no more bad down / back sweep angles for my wrists.
The color was a bad choice, everything has since been anodized black.
I could easilly ride 1000 km days, for days on end.
Best mod I EVER did for any rides longer then 1/4 mile - can't get doenm quite as low with risers.
Nice flat bars, nearly straight, level with top of tank:

Great angle for my wrists...no more numb thumb either

Had to relocate the resevoir, grind locator tabs off the throttle and switch housings

Bars / hands do catch more wind now though

I had an Ohlins damper on mine...but have not noticed it gone at all. Can't say I've heard of any stability/bar issues on a 14. Unless you have seriously changed the geometry of the bike....damper might not be needed. .02

Dubious I like the look of those but did you have raise the forks in the clamps to bolt those on. I bought a set of Apex adjustable risers which bolt on below the top of the triple clamp but they have no provisions to remount the clutch or brake reservoir. I guess I should have known when I bought them.

yeah, I raised the forks 1/2 inch , they are meant to be mounted under the top clamp, but I put them on top. I made some simple brackets from 3/16 aluminum plate to relocate the resevoirs. They were never really intended to be used the way I did, but it worked real well for me. If you do go this route I would use Vortex tubes, they are heavier wall, and no flex like the LSL ones.
I never had any issue with the oil pan plug dragging, but I wouldn't lower the front more than 1/2 " as guys who have gone lower have smashed their oil pans landing wheelies..

its difficult to find a good alternative to the stock ones, due to clearance for the fairing, fuel tank cowl clearance, and that actually are closer.
Most clip ons have no rise, or will not fit inside the top clamp casting around the forks, and most also are placed forward of the fork tube, and the 14 already has the bar centered on the fork tube.
Most other clip on options are worse than the stock position, or hand placement

Dubious when you raised the fork tubes what kind of handling difference did you notice or did you drop the rear too?

I tried it just lowered in front and the bike was still as stable as a freight train.
I dropped the rear equal ammount with threaded links. I tried it even lower in back, but then the front would push. I ran this with the stock arm as well, and it handled well with both ends level, but reduced corner clearance somewhat.
Roads here are straight mostly, and I don't push my luck on the street, as far as corner speed, due to unknown hazards around the corners, poor pavement, animals, etc, I did drag a fairing once, when I had to use all my clearance to get around a dead deer, laying on the road, mid corner

Hi epd345, and all
I use my 08 ZX 14 mainly for sports touring. I have a set of GIVI V 35 bags fitted. For bars, I fitted the LSL Superbike bar kit. I didn't like the LSL kit, put me too bolt upright.
ditched the LSL kit (but left the longer front brake line on as I couldn't be bothered to take it back off) and bought a set of Genmar risers. Better than the stock bar position, but not quite "sport touringish" enough. Left the suspension and fork height exactly stock, and bought and added a Heli bar riser block to the Genmar block, obviously with longer high grade bolts. Had to modify (bend the crap out of) the stock front brake reservoir mount, and rotate the throttle housing to change the way the throttle cables went so everything clears the edge of the fairing, and the end result is perfect for me. Really nice riding position for my 5'10" body, not too bent over, not too upright, and after adding thick foam grips to stop my hands from going numb, now I can cruise all day dawn to dusk in comfort at ridiculous speeds......especially with my Valentine One laser/radar detector mounted out on the right mirror stalk, with the remotes for the visual and the audio in the cockpit.
can't remember now if it is the Genmar or the Heli riser that has the added support lip. Anyway, use the one with the support lip as the bottom of the stack, and it will support the top riser even though that is taller than the fork tube. No issues in a full summer riding season, works well, for me.anyway.

Paul definately has the easiest set up, but I still hate the down angle and sweep of the stock clipons, even if lifted.
I think Paul and I have the same riding style in mind.... more like cannon ball runs...

crossing lake on a ferry.... somewhere in Canada

I stacked them. Bought longer bolts to do it. Dont need grade 8s as the expensive bits they attach are soft.. Have since gone back to just the Genmars.

Hi epd345
I must be computer challenged, as I just spent 20 minutes unsuccesfully trying to upload photos. Yes, I read the instructions here, and I am sure I will figure it out eventually..... for now, if I can figure out your e mail address through the member list I will e mail three photos to you directly.
I stacked the risers with the Heli riser at the bottom, then the Genmar, then the bars. Sorry, I don't remember the bolt length I bought, but easy to measure whhat you need once you have both sets of risers in hand.
Paul
ps, nope, forum won't divulge your email address. guess I'll try again later to figure out this photo upload thing, seems rather laborius for a rpocess that on many other forums is so much simpler......

TNT do you still have those brackets or can you tell me what you did for the bracket that relocated the front brake reservoir. I just stacked two set of Heli bars together and the only problem I am having is clearance with the brake reservoir hitting the front fairing. Thanks
