Clutch went out !!!
Has this ever happened before? My clutch on my brand new 2009 ZX-14 SE went out on me last night and before the comments start let me say this. I have owned a FZR 600 back in 93, then went to a 2001 ZX-7 , to a 2003 Hayabusa to finally my ZX-14. I have never had this problem on any of my previous bikes and this bikes does this now? What could be the problem? I did one burn out just to warm up my tires before a ride. I do not ride the clutch and I down shift before stopping? My bike only has 1068 miles on it will this still be covered under my factory warranty?
If I do need to buy new clutch what brand or who would be a good choice and I will replace them myself?

To burn a clutch up in 1068 STREET miles is wrong. Either you're riding it wrong, or there was a manufacturing error. I have over 12k miles, and over 150 passes at the strip and I'm still on my original clutch. I would contact the kawi dealer for some warranty work, but a cycle concepts drag pack is $155.

Wow.......first time I've ever heard of that. Either you abused the complete hell out of that clutch or you have a factory defect. Wear items like clutches kawi is kind of iffy on warranty wise sometimes. Kawi will probably want the dealer to tear it down to verify it was actually a defect and not abuse. If they decide it was abuse they'll make you foot the bill for the teardown and fix.

I have never found it neccessary to do a burn out before a ride but even so, the Kawasaki clutches are usually bulletproof and anyway, burning out the rear tyre does not consume the clutch plates. You must have a problem JSmooth.
I have sprinted three of my big Kawasaki's. On my first ZX-11, I had sprinted it for two seasons and bought some new clutch plates, assuming they would be worn. When I put the vernier on them they were all within tolerance and perfectly flat too. Since then I have never looked at a Kawasaki clutch.

A buddy of mine said to check out Barnett clutches does anyone suggest these or the ones that Schnitz offers? I am looking for long lasting tough and dependable. I ride kinda hard but no near as hard as those at the drag strip. I haven't made any launches as I am still at the break in period. Just high rates of speed, down shifting and cornering.

If u haven't bin abusing it like u sead I'd take it streight to kawi, because just putting a new one on it and it's a faulty unit ull only be waisting money. Only clutch I've ever burned was on a used Zx12 I had and that was after launching it back to back to back.... With out letting plates time to cool. And clutch on the 14 is way stronger then stock 12s!

Kawasaki will NOT warranty the clutch. On my 06 I had 100x miles and 49 passes on my clutch when it went out as well. I put brocks springs and synthetic oil and haven't had a problem since!!!

Something is definitely wrong.
My 14 has almost 68,000 miles on her original clutch and all is still awesome.

We are running a supercharged ZX14 motor in a race car and have just begun with clutch problems (started slipping from 3rd gear onwards)
We are running a muzzy billet basket and muzzy HD clutch springs with stock steel and friction plates.
What do you guys suggest would be best, replace again with stock or use something else?

Try cycle logic lockup with arm up graded for 300 plus hp(1-941-809-1234), cycle concept clutch pack (1-803-285-8093), and brock's springs and spacers(1-937 912-0054).

I went with Barnette and they quoted me at 220.00 that is with Fibers, Steels and Springs additional price for delivery since that is what they specialize in and now I am waiting for the clutch kit to arrive. I looked all over Cycle concepts for the clutch kit but only found fibers or steels sold seperately the sad thing is that Barnett's had it posted on their site in plain view and they are located in California. I live in SC and can't find a damn thing on Cycle concepts site except their listings of sold seperately I even called and went to a voice mail. Any case what will I need for this project as I have seen it done but I am in no way a professional at this. I know a torque wrench but what other things will I need.

Would a lockup still work ok on a car where downshifting is also needed unlike drag racing???

All you had to do was leave a message and I will return the call at my first available moment..We don't sell our clutch paks off the site because most guys don't know what they need and when they get it all wrong, I have to eat the cost of fixing it for them..So the best way we have found to sell these things is you have to call and order them directly from me over the phone..If you wish to try a set, give me a call and if you get the machine, do like it says and leave a message and I'll return the call at my earliest convenience..Thanks!!
