Needs a life: Thanks. I like the refernce to your bar reading. Sounds like mine is normal. Now one more question? does your bike fan run with the key off. Owners manual says it should. Maintence manual does not say. Local bike shop have never worked on a zx14. Mine was cheep because HD is king here. Again thanks. pipes on this week end. I suspect I should have them dyno tuned and not go with the map from the pc dealer.

No i have to have the key on to run the fan .. When i hot lap in the summer heat here in FL i have had to turn on the key to cycle the fan ..
As far as mapping , if it a Brocks pipe and map you can trust his maps ... What i would do is install the map you have and see how it runs .. If you don't think it runs all that well then see a dyno tunner to refine the map .. Don't spend the money unless it is needed ..OH and don't let HD guys work on your bike ..

I had to laugh. "OH and don't let HD guys work on your bike", hope I did not sound that stupid. I will not even let the kaw mech around here work on it. They have never worked on one before and mine will not be the first. They charge $80 two mount two tire of the bike.

Update: Today i was informed that Kawi doesn't have crate engines. So it's a rebuild only. They asked for 2 hours to go over everything to make sure it wasn't oil starved and everything was in order. I approved it after negotiations ofcourse. I will be charged 1 hour if they don't fix it or nothing if they fix it. They said if they don't rebuild it then maybe i can get goodwill on parts. So at this point Either they fix or I rebuild it with O.E.M parts. I don't think i'll be doing any mods to the engine since it's pretty obvious it was a failure due to bad build. The one thing i would like to ask that no one has answered yet is the question about rods. Has anyone here done the rods before? Should I purchase the guage or use a Mic? The Guage is 400 and I don't expect to be rebuilding alot of these engines so I'd hate to purchase the tool for one use and then storage for the rest of it's life. Is there a Cheaper Guage ? maybe in the 250 range? Well anyway they said they would call me tomorrow and let me know the final verdict. Wish me luck!!

if the failure is obviously due to a bad build why is kawi checking to see if it was oil starved? if the bearing pictured has 12k on it and looks like it does now it was oil starved most likely due to low oil level and the condition described by smokin. other possible causes could be a faulty oil pressure relief or sump problems. the reason #1 failed and not any others is because it is furthest from the oil pump. when oil pressure dips and then comes back up the rod furthest from the pump takes the longest to recover. i also agree with LOCK 2121, your bearing shows no sign of having been seized. when this happens the bearing becomes welded to the crank and would be in much worse condition. as far as buying expensive precision tools you will be better off just using plastigauge if you don't have any experience building bottom ends and don't plan on doing many builds. your money will best spent on a service manual if you don't have one allready

IMO: Plasti Gauge is the cheapest and easiest way to get your clearances spot on when building a bottom end.

I know how to build bottom ends I was just referring to the rod stretch. I have the plastiguage and Mic ofcourse. But yeah i thought the same thing when they asked for time to inspect parts. I just did an oil change with Kawi synthetics at 10,004 and it has 12543 now. Was about to do an oil change using royal purple or modile one. I never raced or did any long wild wheelies or anything crazy all i did was ride. When it failed It just locked up, never knocked. It was a fun experience to say the least. Well we'll just have to see what they say and go from there. And yes I have the manual as well. Thanks for the input.

Don't know if anyone cares about my post since it seems all you guys wanted to do was bash a guy trying to get a little help. After all this time it's finally finished. They asked me to pay $560.00 in extra labor stating that I took things apart that did not need to be when removing the engine. I don't get that really since I took it to them well organized and properly tagged and only remove the engine itself and left everything else( even throttle bodies) in place. Who knows....... But anyway they rebuilt the engine with over $4500.00 in new parts. The service advisor had a Kawi rep come look at the case to approve it's replacement but they said it would be fine. We fought on this for a while and they simply Said if i don't like it then buy my own cases. Real nice guys there. But anyway I'm filing suit against Kawisaki for potential loss of life due to Manufacturer Defect. I bounced off a tractor trailer and almost got sucked under it when it locked up. They stated that they would replace the parts but would not just pay off the bike. I stated I wanted it paid off so I could get something else because My service Advisor said he will just have to tear it down and build it again because the oil pump housing was scratched up. So it's a crazy fight and they paid $4500.00 in parts and god knows what in Labor but wouldn't pay $5000.00 grand to just pay it off and throw it away? What a fight with these guys ya know. I simply said that I don't feel it's safe to ride anymore and they said oh well we replaced everything we felt we needed to.

So............In summary, if you guys get locked up due to mechanical failure it's best that you just lay the bike down and take a few bumps and bruises before they take you seriously. The fact that i survived without getting killed or hurt only makes my case weak that it was life threatening. I loved Kawi until this happened. I love that frame and fairing setup so maybe we need to find out how to fit a Busa motor into it. Anyone ever done that? I'd rather spend$8000.00 building one than buying another death trap which is exactly what that bike is. So guys the next time you're going down the track or the interstate and you thinking your bike is going to knock or give warning before it blows well think again. You better pull your pan and check your bearings or have a professional do so before you risk your life like I did so carelessly. I think we need a class action lawsuit for this bike, who's with me and what's your claim? I'm preparing a case and filing Pro Se. Evidence Speaks for itself and I have been without the use of this bike since August when all this happened.

My claim is this. Kawisaki's obvious negligence in building this motorcycle correctly is risking lives without warning. They have frame cracking issues(defect), tip over sensor issues(defect) and now severe rod bearing and crank failure and even possible oil pump failure issues(defect). Any of these 3 could get you seriously injured and or killed and they have yet to issue a warning and recall all 2006 Models for inspection. Does anyone agree we need a mass recall? If you would like to add your name to the list or tell your story please email me at Pressley_Marine @ yahoo . Without the spaces ofcourse and add dot com lol .

As far as you guys bashing me and saying I'm stupid how dumb do you feel now? Sure I misspelled words and messed up in a few places but my complaint is the same. All 2006 Models need to be recalled and other models as well perhaps. This is a $13,000.00 Machine that should not be having such life threatening major complications. Good Luck and be careful on these bikes guys.
