WOW!!!! Another Lame comment. Please go comment elsewhere thank you. To those who do care tho Kawi dealer said this happened to a bike that was literally brand new so it could have very well been factory error. They said they will let me know the procedure by next Friday. Service Manager agreed I should be getting a new engine but unsure what will happen til it happens. By the way how to i delete this post? Not to many really seem concerned with this very serious issue so why even keep posting right? Well i posted for a reason so I'm trying to keep my follow ups correct but if indeed it's a waste and no1 cares then please flag it for removal i seriously don't mind. If you have nothing to say about the post itself then say nothing at all please. This post was made for real techs to bump heads and discuss options and something I am getting a crash course on. But i can see that the real techs are at the dealer right now building the bikes and care not to answer my questions, I guess because they just get annoyed with these responses like I do. You're right it's the twilight zone and YOU"RE ALL WEIRDOS!!! In a forum about a bike you would expect to see alot of questions asked and alot of questions answered. BUT WOW i see alot of questions asked but no1 actually answering. One guy even said well Considering you were a BMW tech you're asking alot of silly questions. What the hell does a 318 i with a valvetronic head and a step tronic transmission have to do with a ZX!4 motorcycle. WEIRD!!! Anyway I've said to much already :P time to sit, wait, and hope for the best. Thank you and have a nice day.

After rebuilding a few motors the first thing a person might gather IS burnt up bearing's look like burnt up bearings , FIND OUT WHY , FIX THE WHY PART OF THE ISSUE PUT IT BACK TOGETHER RIGHT , NO MORE PROB.
For the record ZX14 will do wide open in top gear stock gearing all day long , you got a problum , better get one of those fancy BMW motorcycles, drop your membership here .

Been looking at the crank and bearing photo's starting to question the lock up at 140 , damage to bearing's does'nt represent that!!

The bike locked completely down. Then it started after it cooled off and locked down again. So yes the bearing caused the lock up. So funny you think you can tell what happened by looking at a crank lol. 2 wheels is my passion obviously being assholes because you feel your level as a tech has been threatened is all you seem to be concerned about; Obviously you can't answer real questions so you just make up something that sounds smart. Nobody really responded to it, but if this actually happened, and you're a real person with a REAL zx14, it's very possible that you screwed your motor in the first 2000 miles by not changing the oil. When the motor is breaking in, it's important that you change the oil quickly. Good luck with the new motor, and remember to change the oil after 500 or fewer miles.

tech is another name for maintenance man. try engine builder , none I have built have blowen up .
Ever think about the crankcase ? just maybe that bearing is not seating right , not allowing it to cool or just to thight , not enough clearence.
better double check the case , If it was a tight bearing a long extened full throttel run , would do what it did , if all the rest of the bearings , pistons ect. look good then it was to tight , lost oil flow , wasent seated in the bore correct .
a thousand or so posts back SHANE had a expo on crank's bearing's , the photo's are in focus, and he has no miss spelled word's
The drag racer's that hang out here spend thousand's of dollars, and hour's on their bike's try reading Shane's build thread or those turbo guy's, they have more to worry about than 1 spun bearing . better bone up , Im going rideing ,

Heat and rattle

total_chaos can you post the number that you called. I am going to try to call the number you called. I purchased my bike 7 months ago. I believe I am having issues with the engine heat and engine noise. The thing pegs the gauge out. they ask me if it boils over. I wouldn’t even think of letting boil over. when the bars pegs I turn it off. The owner’s manual states the fan should stay running. My fan turns off. So I have to turn the ignition on tool cool it down. I ride in the 3 to 4k rpm range 90% of the times. Just commute back and forth to work. I do not think I have even broken the 7k rpm range yet. WV does not have straight roads. It also makes a terrible sound when first started. Like a hand full of marble in a coffee can. Goes away real quick. Been riding for over 40 years and have ridden everything under the sun. Never heard anything that sounds like this when first started. Tech will not take the time to talk to me. Shop where I bought it suggests taking it elsewhere. They have never worked on one. Mine will not be the first. Have a couple of grand in mods just waiting to be put on. But not before I know why. Any suggestion from others to the noise and heat.????????????

Forget about the start up rattle it's normal and causes no harm but to your ego .. heat .. Well they don't over heat but they do run warm and put off a lot of heat to your legs .. Add an aftermarket pipe and that will help a bunch .. Switch to full Syn oil helps also .. More miles helps also .. Now mod this shit out of it and ride the wheels of it ..

I certainly do not undersstand the dynamics of the engine - but I did run Bonneville on the long course - 6 passes at full throttle for five miles - north of 180 for the final 3 and spinning up above 10,000RPM as a result of tire slip from traction issues (Wheel speed would have been over 200)..... and motor performed flawlessly - (note - bike is very highly maintained....e.g. probably had 10 or 12 oil changes by now ) Bike has 6,000 miles plus over 40 passess at Maxton and probably 300 passes on the quarter mile..... although I certainly would not advise doing two miles full throttle on a public road - hell a broken motor is a lucky break considering the other possibilities.

buch of rough necks

WOW you guys are rough, thats cools. I won’t cry. But I did miss speak, I ride in the 3 to 6 range, checked this morning. I ride my bike to work and back. EVERY day. Rain, shine, snow, but not ice. 5 to 95 degrees. How many of you do that. BUT. That does equal 50 to 80 mph. Now if want to play around with tickets. Commuting is where you get them. Plus bumper to bumper traffic sort of limits ya. Yes I will bust it every chance I get. On the open road, and twisties I crank it and the bike handles almost as good as a liter bike. But who has the time to dedicate to nothing but riding with two jobs, so I ride it everywhere I go. I have not met any body who owns a ZX14 in the area, a friend owns a pre-limiter busa and it as smooth as silk. Don’t take it wrong, I think the ZX14 rules. Just not sure of the noise and heat. I agree the noise is most likely normal. But the heat is either a real problem with the heat or the sensor. Most likely the sensor is reading high. What is the use of a gauge if it one bar below peg anytime the temps get above 80F. OH the guy, who is a BMW mech, is a CAR mech. So that is why he asking questions. I would never take my bike to a car mech. Nor would I take my car to a bike mech. I am a 28 aircraft mech and I know enough about bikes to ask questions. We had high tech equipment to test and check everything. And yes I have a shop manual, read it cover to cover. Kaw shops are a waste. I figure you guys are the real pros. Even if you’re like a bunch of surfers (ocean, not web). But I will take my lumps to have you guys educate me. AND yes I have been running full syn, for the last 4k. My full yoshis and pc is still in the garage, with all the others mods. Just want to clear up any issues before I install everything. The kaw shops tell me they will void the warranty. I know I can uninstall the stuff when I take it in. But that’s a lot of work. So I just want to be sure, before I take the plunge. By the way it is an NEW 07. Stole it from a Harley shop for $6900. They only know HD and I don’t want them learning on my bike. OK lets here all the crap, just throw in a useful comment once in awhile. PS if you ever want to ride real roads. Come out to West-By-God-Virginia. We have twisties that make a bowl of spaghetti look straight. We have back roads where cell or gps does not reach. But you can where the chicken strips off before the middle.

..As i said put the pipe, p/c on , that will help with the heat ..Not only will it help what you see on the gauge it will also help the heat you feel coming off the bike ..I live if FL so heat is nothing new to me , mine will run two bars below hot and stopped at a long light it will get up to one bar before hot .. I'm fine with that but some feel it just to damn hot ... If you check some of the old threads you will find some guys that have added a second fan .. Others have added a zx10 fender , the zx10 fender lets more air get to the rad .. Some have tried water wetter and like it while others saw no difference in the temps .. I myself would not worry about it , as long as it doesn't get to the point of flashing HOT on your gauges i don't see a problem .. I have noticed that with more miles it runs cooler ...The difference in temps between zero miles and 4500 miles is very real.. Mod it , ride it and worry a bit less ..

Needs a life: Thanks. I like the refernce to your bar reading. Sounds like mine is normal. Now one more question? does your bike fan run with the key off. Owners manual says it should. Maintence manual does not say. Local bike shop have never worked on a zx14. Mine was cheep because HD is king here. Again thanks. pipes on this week end. I suspect I should have them dyno tuned and not go with the map from the pc dealer.
