GPR Steering Dampers?

Who is using one of these on their 14? Which version? Does it leak?

Do you have to drill holes in the frame? Can it be used with a front-end lowering strap?

I have a spare Scott's, but I'm not sure that I want to drill holes in the frame.Thanks.

Shane

GPR's are supposedly just bolt on and go aren't they? My buddy fitted one on his 6RR with no mod needed..........but I do want one myself Shane.

I have a v1 GPR for the last two years.. it doesnt leak, id say it may weap a little bit.

you do not have to drill holes in the frame, and i don't have a strap, so i couldn't tell ya.

Mine leaked but the factory fixed it under warranty and returned it asap. No further problems.

Hey Shane I have about 5k or a little over a year on my GPR V4 and no leaks so far. Great adjustability and no frame holes.

I would look elsewhere- I've had 3 leak oil on me so far on different bikes,
including the one on the 14 a few months ago.

Hyperpro active gets my vote.

I know your asking about the GPR - but this is what I had on my bike.

The price is comprable . . . . . the quality is superior. (IMHO)

Hey Shane,
Chad has one on his 14 and it works just fine with a strap and it's a lot easier to remove than Zacks Hyper-Pro when you gotta take off the tank cover.
It's simple & clean........no runs, drips or errors on his.
That Pit Bull one looked pretty nice but I don't know anything about them.

Jesse has one on his bike .. It's been there 3 years and no leaks so far ... You have to drill and tap the frame .. Yes you can run a strap but in time it kind of fucks it up ..

I'm guessing since Jesse had to drill & tap the frame that the newer ones did away with that. I think Chads is a V4 and it was a simple bolt-on.

Nice unit Bob.........Ohlins is godlike equipment, that's for sure.........almost like Ohlins version over the GPR since it leaves the steering nut open for a gps/camera mount

Shane,

I've had my GPR V4 since 2007...no leaks...no problems!! It bolts on without having to drill anything on the frame. Nice compact damper that doesn't interfere with anything!

Thanks,

I already have a Muzzy/Ohlins on my bike. I don't like the complexity of the mounting, and the damping is a little weak for my LSR stuff.

I don't like the mounting setup for the Brock's...it looks dependant on the factory clip-ons and master cylinder.

Honestly, the Scott's is my favorite damper mechanism. I am just not thrilled about drilling the frame like I did on my 12R. Maybe I will just go ahead and drill my racebike frame and put the Muzzy/Ohlins on Racheals 14. Then all I have to do is buy a mounting kit for the Scott's.

The mounting kit is somewhere around the $150 range. I put a Scotts on my 06 zx14 the week before the crash...

When i was shopping for a damper i found alot of threads of GPR ones leaking, i strayed away after seeing those. I don't wanna sound like a hard core Scotts fan boy but i think these are the best on the market bar none: :P

Sorry Smokin...if it makes you feel any better it did come down to you or oldkawboy. Both of you seemed like you would give it a good rigorous test. GPR makes a good product too though...and if you're getting it for free you really can't beat the price

Ohlins Steering Dampener

I have 1" risers on my 14. Would that make it difficult to install a dampener?

I'm looking at the Scott's damper, Would I have to drill in the frame?

If I ever sold the bike (to get a newer one, of course) I would want to keep the damper and I wouldn't want to leave any evidence of it.

Thanks

The risers will be a problem with the Muzzy or Brock's style dampers (Ohlins). You would have to install spacers, at minimum.

Probably a GPR or Pitbull would be your best bet. No drilling with those, and clearance won't be an issue.
