any one built a single axle trailer for a sport bike?
Just curious if anyone has built a single axle trailer for a sportbike. I've seen a few on line at a couple of dealers. One in Canada and the other in the UK. But I've haven seen anything here in the US. ecept some hokey looking trailer for a Hardley. It mounts on the rear lugage rack. Any info would be nice. i'm sick of saddle bags and a tail bag. Thanks.

12' enclosed trailer here. Easy because you leave everything in the trailer.

yep...basic frame is a 40x48 Harbor Freight trailer with 12" tires. Hauled this thing all over the damn place for over 6 yrs. Have kept the bearings greased and replaced the homemade decking 3 times (should have used treated wood the first time). Works like a champ with a HF motorcycle chock on it now (pic shows original). Perfect for a single bike and can be loaded/unloaded by one person no problem.

I am going to ask my girlfriends father to build me one when he retires from the Military. I am going to make a simple tralor with a roof top carrier for putting stuff in. One problem is I want to keep the bike stretched.
I aggree that saddle bags are annoying and you cant take all the stuff you need.....

That's a nice little functionable trailer QP..........and fairly inexpensive by the looks of it.
I've seen those small utility trailers at HarborFreight and thought about it myself -- but alas, I've got a pair of ramps and a truck to get mine around that saves me a little insurance / registration every year........but what guy DOESN'T want a trailer?
I'd love to have a 7X14 enclosed with toolchests, cabinets, lights, heat and a/c, couple bunkbeds that fold up against the sides, tile floor, stereo, plasma TV, awning on the side, with 4 chocks bolted down -- so me and the fella's can go do weekend trackdays or on some dirtbike overnighters!! But thats a $10,000 dream of mine..........for now

Now that I've re-read the thread, I'm getting a clue.........sorry for the confusion.........QP found these hot little jobbies - but personally, I think they're expensively hideous!!

$2500 for a few extra cubic feet over saddle/tank/tail bags? i'd go to walmart and get a $30 backpack before I tried yankin' one of these down the road.........especially when you want to bust 180mph, that little tire would probably frag apart!!

I'd still defer from draggin' anything behind my rocket -- unless Michelin or Dunlop made Z rated 12" tires!! That's just scary to me

I know you gotta keep the MPH down with a trailer or even with bags. But the soon to be wifey and I do a lot of road trips. We just got back from a week long trip in the UP of Michigan (over 1800 miles). I carry all her stuff and the kicthen sink. She has a Aprilia Tuono and is scared of riding with extra wieght. A trailer would be a lot easier to load and unload.
The trailer, I think, would be the easy part. It's the hitch part that I'm more intrested in. I kidda like this set up http://www.thirdwheeltrailers.com/ but can't find any good pics of the hitch. I did find a company in the UK that uses the hole in the axle bolt, stainless steel for the hitch, and very easy to install and remove. I do a lot drag racing so the install and removal has to be easy.
Thanks for the input.

less than $300 I've never registered it either. I figure I'll give them the old "you mean the tag fell off AGAIN" routine. I've got ramps/truck as well, but for a dragbike, this worked much better and I could leave the bike on the trailer until the next visit to the track.
I'd love to have a nice enclosed trailer too, but just don't have a real need/room for one right now. Someday though.

I don't want to sound like a d!ck here, but why wouldn't you want to invest in a good quality trailer if it will haul your bike (bikes)?
Kendon for an open rail and Thule or Hallmark for a lightweight V-nose trailer.

I think he'd have trouble pulling one of those with a 14.

well, lets see....I needed a trailer that was no more than 60" wide to fit through my gate. AND, why would I spend that much money on something that has performed the exact same function any high dollar trailer does? AND it's done it flawlessly. I've worn out a set of tires on this trailer hauling it around over the years and it just about needs another set.
I put that trailer together and made a few mods to it, and also maintain it very closely (aircraft maintainer for 24 yrs). I'll keep my trailer just fine and you can tote your "good quality trailer" all you want...I could buy another bike for what you paid for a kendon. Where's the investment?

Yep, agreed- a cheap trailer is a much better investment
When I tow 4 bikes and all gear to the track and that track happens to be 12 or more hours away, I'm far better off towing in a heavier 7x14 trailer with worse suspension and brakes that will also give me worse mpgs. It's also a much worse investment to have the convenience of a rear gate, side doors, strapless restraints, built-in cabinets etc.
Like many others, I must be really fucked up in the head to buy the top dollar gear, equipment and parts for my bikes and call it a good investment.
Bottom line is, isn't a U-haul trailer something like $20 per day?

I see........playing the system against itself -- ingenious!! I understand space restrictions at home too -- I'd have to leave ANY trailer outside.........unbelievably, no room for it my 3car garage, but I've currently got a builder quoting me a 24x24 carport to add on to my garage to help remedy that problem.........we'll see what kind of price he gives me - I'd quoted my own materials at less than $2000 using pre-fab trusses and re-roofing the whole garage/carport afterwards, so he knows what he's up against.........$300 for that trailer is a Hell of a deal!!
Me and the fella's usually borrow a big 16ft tandem axle from a buddy when we travel together, but that's a rare ocassion anymore.........getting older with family / home to take care of is starting to take over our fun weekends out.

well good for you then. If that fit your needs, then fine. It would not suit mine, nor would it been a wise investment back then.
