Quick question....battery for ZX14?
I've never kept a bike long enough to need a replacement battery...until now. The battery in my 06 ZX14 is on its last legs.
Quick (and dumb) question - will I need to go to a dealership for the battery or are there aftermarket replacements that work? Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc?
Thanks in advance for the input!

Schnitz has the original Yuasa for around 89. I still have the original in my 06. They also have solid state batteries(lith -ion?) for double the price and they are lighter and are supposed to last a long time but may not be good for real cold environments. Dubious on this site has had the best deals on them but I don't know if he is still doing them. You could save almost 10 lbs tho.

Do you have a Batteries Plus store near you. They have a battery that is the shitz. It is listed as 200cca but actually puts out 280!! It weighs almost a pound more than the stock Furakawa that was in my '06. That's a good thing. More weight means more lead. It cranks my 14 over with authority. The brand new "replacement" battery that I got from Cycle Gear only put out 139 cca and weighed 3 lbs. less.
I also found in my reasearch that, for example, a FTX 14 is actually only 12 amp hours whereas a FTZ 14 is 14 amp hours. This is true, not only for the Furakawa brand but for Yuasa and many others, so just cause Parts Unlimited and others call it a 14 amp hour cause it has 14 in the number, do your homework and go to the various battery websites and check it out.
By the way, Cycle Gear made good on the battery with a full, no hassle refund.
Good luck,
Tom

My 06 is still on the original battery, it's always plugged into an Optimate when garaged.

I purchased battery from walmart for my 07 in 08 it has been great this past winter I had bike in storage and was unable to keep on charger I just went and started every once and while and it is still going strong I have Leds and cigarette charger that I use often. I think it was $69.00 they usually have one or two on shelf. The same battery is used in Honda VTX cruiser as well. They have a book by batteries that tells you the model battery you need.

And it's a sealed maintenance free battery?

These are worth a look, ive heard alot of people had good luck with these, a few Busa owners i know run these: $60 on ebay, its especually worth it for that price, because the ZX14 battery size is a bitch to find, only a few Buells and big touring bikes use them.
