A good as it gets??

I had a chance to get out to the track last night and it's been about 3 months since I've raced last.
I haven't changed anything on the bike at all since the last time.

My best previous time was a 9.74@146 (6.37@117 in the 1/8). My 60' times seem to average right around a 1.67 to 1.70 consistently. Last night it was same as usual. I ran a 9.76, a 9.78, 9.79,9.80 (but not in that order) and a few throw away runs where I was playing with my launch and ended up on 1 wheel most of the time. My best pass last night netted me with a 145.2 mph trap speed. I'm about 200-300 rpm shy of the limiter in 4th gear at the finish line. I plan on going down 1 tooth in the rear to a 16/40 combo in the future. As for my experience, I've made probably close to 600 passes total down the 1/4 mile on bikes.

I weigh in at about 225lbs with leathers and helmet, the front is down 3/4", the rear 1.5", I'm -1 up front and 41t in the rear, stock wheel base and the following mods, BMC filter, Brocks street SS/Ti system mapped with a PCIII, front end strapped, running 3/4 of a tank of pump 93, and on Pilot Road II tires (btw,,,, 1.67 60' with 37 PSI and no burnout is kinda funny). I'm foot shifting and at sea level with temps in the mid-upper 80's and humidity better than 60%.

I had one pass where there was wheel spin on the 1-2 shift but all the others were solid to the point where the front wheel would come up a bit on the 1-2 shift.

I launch at about 5K-5.5K rpms and I try to get off the clutch quickly as I roll the throttle on in 1st gear.

Am I doing something wrong or are these times about right for my size / mods / conditions? I'm getting the feeling that I should be a bit quicker. The bike and myself weighed in at 775 lbs last year but I lost about 10 lbs since then. The bike alone scaled in at 530 lbs.

I only wish I had a good coach at the track who's familiar with the 14 who could give me some tips because I feel like something is amiss. Anyone have any input??

At 225 pounds and stock wheel base you are doing great ..Is there a bit more to be had ? Hell yes!!! Just get your 60 down to 1.60 and you will knock off 1.4 or some close to that ..That will get you low 9.60s ... With seat time you can get into the 1.50s 60 foot times and bust off some 9.40s .. Next time you go to the track have someone take some videos of you close up on the line ..We can't help you if we can't see what you are doing wrong or right .. If i had to guess without seeing it myself i would say you are on the clutch longer than you think you are ..I'd also bet you are a lot later getting on the gas than you think .. A good video will tell ..

If you get down to 1.60, from 1.70, you will gain about .15 or so in ET. You are doing very well for your setup and weight.

At my height and SWB, it's a BITCH getting out cleanly and not lofting the front end. Funny that on the launch, I seem to get good traction 99% of the time. I can only remember once or twice blowing away the tire.

I'm sure my posture at launch could use improving. And as for what Smokin' said about getting on the gas late,,,,, I believe him. I've got to get some video. I run into some people I recognize at the track, but I may only know them from there. None of my other friends are local and I just about always go to the track alone. Ride there, tighten the strap, Race, and unstrap and ride home.

Forget about asking my wife. She's bored to hell at the track and has only seen me there 2 times. I'll have to call in a favor from a friend of mine 50 miles away to tape me.

And IMO quit running 93 pump gas and go to 87 and don't run 3/4 of a tank either. you should be running your last 2 or 3 passes with the fuel light on. you could be talking 10 to 15 lbs of weight right there.

My best is 9.20@154 at about 205 suited: stock wheelbase, foot shifting with my pipe/pc/map and MR9 fuel.

WOW !!! A response from the master himself !!!!

I'm going to give the 87 octane fuel a try my next time out for sure and when I do, I'll try it again with just 1/4 tank of fuel or less.

Brock,,,,,,, that MPH is amazing! Almost 10 mph more than I have ever pulled off.
