wastegate help

What pressure spring are you guys using for your external wastegates? I want to run an external gate, with the spring pressure being my setting for pump gas. I think I remember Lee saying he had to use a 4 psi spring to get 6-7 actual psi....

Help!

my spring is a .5 bar or 7.25 psi spring and it would show 7 on the gauge and every once in a while 8 but never more than that, what gate are you using? and how is it on the header post pics if you can

Internal wastgates are more prone to creep. Never saw over 7 with a 6 lb. spring on the Busa.

Jesses waste gate had some kind of problem and i have no clue what the cause was .. But anyway we had to run a 3 pound spring to get 5 or 6 psi .. We started with a 6 pound spring and we got 12 psi or so ..

On my turbo ZRX I have 5, 7 & 9 pound springs and also supplied were 4 shims, you can use two for an extra one pound. It's a Turbonetics and they are within a pound according to my gauge.

Boost is so much fun !!!!

ok..... I just ordered my mitsubishi 16g turbo (avoided the chinese stuff)

I'm thinking about cutting into the header and placing the wastegate right on the header instead of where the internal wastegate goes on the turbo..... I would think it would get more flow there..... What do you think?

I've heard mixed reviews about the chinese turbos. Some say that have had them for thousands of miles with no problems, but other say they exploded on the dyno on the first attempt. I found a mitsubishi 16g used for the same price as a new chinese 16g copy.... A no brainer if you ask me.

I have never had one problem with a Chinese Turbo. The one 01smokes has made 390RWHP all day long and is a copy of a Garrett T3/04. and they are cheap.

type in "wrx 16g" in ebay. There are tons of them, and they cost about $275 shipped.

How do you modify one of these for an external wastegate?

I'll make sure to post some pics when the time comes. If I go external (which is what I'm planning), then I'll weld in a divider plate to segregate the turbine wheel from the wastegate flapper, remove the flapper, cut a hole in the downpipe over the wastegate hole, and weld on an external gate.

I was playing around on ebay tonight (cause I couldn't sleep), and I came across a BRAND NEW never used Tial 38mm wastegate for $119 shipped. Sounded too good to be true.... But I jumped on it because it had only been posted about 15 mins ago..... I wonder if the seller meant to start the bidding at $119 instead of a buy it now price at $119..... Either way, unless he's a deadbeat (and his score is 100%), that means I SCORED a NICE wastegate for a NICE price! Only sucky thing is it's a 14.7 psi spring.... Can't have it all

Looking to get the most HP out of the CL header, would you go with the 16g, 18g, vf22 or something else?

All other headers (that I know of) orient the exhaust on the other side (the exhaust exits on the left side and the intake is on the right side, exactly opposite of the CL kit). So, you'd need to get a COMPLETELY different setup. The 18g will flow 600 cfm...... that's a lot! What are you aiming for?
