Exhaust Changes
Hey guys, I'm looking at making some exhaust changes but I'm not sure if it will actually make any difference so just looking for some input.
My thoughts are to remove the stock header and beat out the cats and then put on a set of akra slip ons. I currently have a Bazzaz with Autotune so air/fuel changes are not hard to adjust.
Also, would this setup be stupid loud? Police around here are cracking down on loud bikes so dont want to be excessive.
Thanks a million for any information.
Nick

Just call Brock and get his gen 2 or Muzzys gen 1 with oval can ...You are just wasting time with slip ons and beating out the cats ..You can pick up a full system used cheaper than you can buy new slip ons ..

If you modify the OEM cans it gets louder & sounds like shit...If your worried that much about the loudness, then leave it stock...They all get loud when you have the RPM's near redline!!!
You can buy a used single sided system from $400-500 for a decent system...Nobody wants to buy duals, the singles make more power...
Or buy used slipons for around $300, im sure plenty of guys that bought them are looking to unload them for a single system...
If you do buy slipons, you dont need to buy a power commander, but since you have the bazzaz...

The catalysts are in the mufflers on the early 14's and there's one in the collector as well on the later bikes, that's the spherical bit in the link pipe. None in the headers.

Leave em stock if you want them to be quiet. I bet you Kawasaki put 10 times more R&D, money, and engineering into those stock cans than any pipe manufacturer puts into their exhausts. Everyone hates stock cans but damn they are so quiet. I have a zx6r with the stock can and it isn't much louder than my wife's Honda civic when I start it in the morning.

i realize kawi put tons of R&D into the exhaust....however I'm not one for leaving things stock
I also dont want to spend 2500 on an exhaust system if there is a way I can do it a little cheaper still with decent performance.
I should have left out the comment in the beginning about excessive noise as I think it was taken differently than I meant it. One of my previous bikes was a 600RR with a full yosh system (no baffle) and that was not overly loud in my opinion.

If you want to go the slip on route I would use the 08 and up stock head pipe as a foundation because the head pipes have a larger diameter. That means you need slip ons for 08 and up bike un less you have access to a muffler shop to swedge the earlier pipes to fit. Your welcome to my 08 head pipe if you like.

I have an 08 SE, just as you. Would you bang out cats before putting on slipons?
How much would you be looking to get for that header?

From what I've read banging out the cats is a pain and doesn't gain you squat. Just stick some slips on, lose some weight, gain some flow in that area, and call it a day

exactly what I would do in this situation..........if you're just looking for a better exhaust tone and look, get the Delvic dual cans or another cheap aftermarket -- ebay should put you into something other than stock for less than $800 shipped

I'm looking to mount my bazzaz O2 sensor in my factory exhaust header. Does anyone know how far ahead the first cat sits in the pipe? I would think that I need to mount the O2 ahead of that first cat.

The cat is at the end near the split to left & right mid pipes ( the bulge in the collector).

I think your wanting to put too much into what you are going to gain. Just install slipons and ride, or get a used full system for $500

That really is kind of a waste to have the full autotune with a stock exhaust...how the heck did you end up in that situation? lol. Really though, you can find some great deals on full yoshi systems for around 700 or so bucks brand new if you shop a little, they sound great, not too loud, give you a nice power boost, and drop a TON of weight that you really feel in the handling. Thats really the direction you need to go

Yes i would take the time to knick the cat out of the head pipe for cooling purposes. you pay the shipping and you are welcome to it to experiment on it.
