BMW S1400

With the success and horsepower of the S1000RR, will BMW consider making a hypersport bike? They have the technology and capability to easily increase the size of the motor, bike, and horsepower. Their liter bike is obviously causing a stir on the forums for both the Busa and the zx-14. I think we could easily be talking about a stock bike with 200 horsepower with what could be similarly priced to the current S1000RR.

BMW has obviously embraced the drag racing market with it's support of Brock's bikes, on their website and sending them to Miller Motorsport's Park for the WSB round. BMW wants to keep its sport touring edge, but they are pushing for performance in their motorcycle division to shed it's old image of the old guy with a beard bike and have the performance edge like their cars.

Will they do it? If so how long until it's released and will Kawi and Suzi be able to compete? I think the new numbers from the 2011, Japanese 1000s will tell the story when they are released.

They already have a hypersport, and it was supposed to unseat the busa and zx14..... maybe next time....

The K1300S came about before the new competitive and performance push or maybe it was their first attempt, but now they have a platform and the upper hand.

What? after you get blown away by another bike.

Sorry dude...just looking for an interesting discussion on what BMW marketing department should be considering as a natural exention of their litter bike. A 200 hp stock bike for 15K wouldn't interest you?

...maybe you meant the sound of your eyes rolling back from all the acceleration of a 200 hp stock bike.

I'll be riding me 14 for the foreseable future no matter what happens, so I'm no BMW "hugger"...like Steve...lol.

who the fuck rides a "stock" bike the BOOZAS and the old GSs will ALWAYS be the kings when it comes to all out power its just easy and cheap to make big power and go fast, the 14 is good but not great bike. it has flaws just like all the bikes do. if i were gonna build a race bike id buy a gen1 and make a mountain motor and shoot a very large shot of gas down it and go faster and quicker than any BMW and still be cheaper than a stock BMW

Right now the economy sucks, but there will hopefully be a day when it doesn't and with new Japanese liter bikes retailing for over $12K, the price of the BMW is competitive. The point is that the BMW is closer in price and a stock BMW S1400 would have more horspepower than most modded zx-14s or busas (barring significant changes to each). So when you modify the BMW you will have a faster bike with more horsepower with relatively little more cost. In order to make your zx-14 or Busa fast enough you will have to spend more $ for more mods than the BMW has in order to keep up, thus making the BMW purchase more attractive.

On the BMW website it says the k1300s only has 175 hp, not 200. The 14 still has more power than that but is also 60 lbs heavier.

The thread is about a hypothetical BMW S1400 that currently doesn't exist, but would be based on the 180 HP S1000RR that has been putting up some amazing numbers on the dyno and the drag strip. It wouldn't be far fetched to say this bike would be 200 HP in a stock form if they built it.

Since both the k1300 and the new K1600 GT are both shaft drive I would think that the K1600 GT inline 6 wll be better. The 1650 has much more torque ( 130 ft-lbs) but is limited to 8500 rpm. It looks like it has a common plenum with a single throttle body. So making those larger looks like it would be easy . Larger cams might be an issue , but how much more can they be compared to the $1300 for Muzzy zx-14 cams. It should be really easy to add a turbo.

Drive shaft kills it for me .... I do love that big six sound ... If they would use that six in a sport type bike and didn't limit the power to 160 hp then it would be a killer for sure ..

BMW K1600 inline 6 engine coming for next year, thats not rumor or any secret.

plus it'll have adaptive technology that allows the headlights to shine into the curves.

not hyping beemer, maybe the engine will be a fluke and the lights will suck...but its coming anyway.

I am ready to get the K1600... more torque than my 1530 motor ...over 130 ft-lbs torque and almost 100 ft-lbs off of idle... gotta be fun for sport touring.

I like The idea of not having to go into the motor to stroke or bore. Bolt on stuff like intake manifolds and headers sounds soo much cheaper than having custom engine work done.

For what its worth, our local bike shop had a free dyno day shoot-out.

The dyno reads about 10% high, but I think this is a good comparison to see how the bike performed in back-to-back runs, on the same dyno, same operator, same day.

195 hp - 2007 ZX14 with Erion slip-ons, Jeffo fuel map, PCIII
190 hp - 2008 ZX14 with Muzzy slip-ons, Jeffo fuel map, PCV
185 hp - 2009 BMW 1000, looked to be all stock
175 hp - 2009 ZX10 with Leo Vince slip-on and PCV
165 hp - 200? Aprilla RSV4
152 hp - 2009 Kawasaki Concours
150 hp - 2006 Yamaha FZ1, GYTR slip-on
