Octane booster
Any one no of a good octane booster that actually works, I no it only picks up octane a little, but I know there is some junk out there that I don't want to put in my tank, any suggestions, I've just bin adding a splash of race gas in with fill ups when I'm running her hard, but I do alot of traveling and can't cary race gas on me. I'm running t-3 turbo on 4lb

a splash of race gas is just false security. Unless you mix 50% pump and 50% race, your not making much difference.
example, 3 gallons 92 octane pump and 1 gallon 104 race fuel. = 4 gallons ~95 octane mix
2 gallons 92 plus 2 gal 104 = 4 gal 98 octane
not sure how much a splash is but you can see that 25% even is only negligable change
I wouldn't expect to see more than 3 points on octane boost.
in the old days we mixed 92 premium unleaded with 90 regular leaded and got about 98 octane due to the lead from the regular boosting the octaneof the premium- so I read in hod rod or super chevy magazine back in the 80's.
I would look for a environmentally toxic lead additive...lol keep it off your hands and don't at or spill it....
seriously, we played with lead pencils in school all our lives and now they are worried about lead in paint, blinds and fuel additives.... puhlease... lol

Years ago the booster turned the ports and spark plug a reddish/pink color. marde "reading " the inside of the plug impossible. My guess they have a new product
that does not do this.

Pencils are graphite, a little hard to get lead poisoning from that. Better to go eat paint chips off an old house, that'll fuck you right up.

what about that fuel additive from Brock's that is supposed to give you like 3 HP on the dyno. Made by Wynn's, forgot what its called.

not ot be argumentative, certainly more important issues in life, but pencils are lead graphite from what I understood.. the higher the number darker and more the lead, I might be mistaken

The Wynn's product Brock carries is a cleaning agent ( I think ) moreso than an octane booster, unless they make an octane booster as well?? Not sure, but I'm planning on ordering a bottle or 2 of the fuel system cleaner by Wynn's and see if it betters my fuel use and power

I purchased a bottle from Brocks..but my 14 only has 9,000 miles and I use Shell 93 here in Texas when ever possible.It did not help my milage but I have never used Racing Fuels etc. It's made by Wynn's, called Power Charger that cleans deposits from injectors, valves and combustion chambers. It also has corrosion inhibitors and water dispersants. It states 16 OZ (1 pint) for 5 to 20 gallons of gasoline mix. I used the whole can (1 pint) to about 3 gallons of 93 Shell) and road around on the Freeway for 90 miles. gas gauge was blinking and I rode another 25 miles and filled up. Road another 100 miles and milage stayed the same. If you read the post where Smokin used it on a high milage Busa ( I think) it helped big time. I usually use several ounces of Berryman B-12 Chemtool throttle body and carb cleaner every other tank or so when in town driving. So my injectors must have been clean.
Some Racing Fuel and off brands of gasoline will clog the small holes in the fuel injectors
over a long period of miles. For the money Berryman B-12 Chemtool is hard to beat and it has been around for over 35 years that I have used it to clean old carb's on dirt bikes...........
Redline makes a product that got good reviews too. Chevron makes good cleaner to. use several ounces of any of these products to a tank of gas every 500 miles and I bet your 14 will run smooth and get the same milage it did when new. Depending on how bad you beat on it :-).

I have read that too. I think Smokin used 91 one week end and ran the same in the 1/8 mile?? I have not Drag Raced my 14 yet (still in warranty) so I do not know. I do know you have, how much gain did you see?? I use the Shell 93 as i have a Muzzy advancer and a TRE006a (no backfire on deacell) and lug my 14 in traffic etc. Just being safe as I am not chasing 1/10's in the 1/4 mile.....yet :-)

Lower octane fuel burns faster; it is somewhat akin to advancing the ignition timing.
I usually run MR9 now, which is also low octane, but oxygenated.

I understand this.... but how much faster in 1/4 or in mile runs is 87 worth over or 91 or 93 pump gasoline ??? Or have you used 87 pump gas then tried 91 or 93 pump gasoline?
If I can gain a bike or so when other Shane and Tommy C. and other members that come over on their 14 to do roll on's in 2nd I want to have evey advantage :-)

I think Smokin did at the Drag Strip on a stock 14 with no difference in 1/8. I guess next Sunday morning I will have 87 Shell pump in and when the guys come over I will find out. Mike has a 14 geared just like mine and we are really close when we roll on at 60 or 70 in 2nd and go thru the gears. Our "Spot" is bout 1 3/4 mile with no inlets for traffic to suprise us. We ride down the divided Hiway and look for crud in the road (cops too) and turn around and go for it .
I will take my GPS with me this time as see what happens.

1/8th does not really show you the difference in hp. Bottom line, if the fuel burns faster without preignition and/or detonation, you are going to go faster. Street roll-ons, who knows? At the track people measure performance .001 at a time, under controlled conditions...

I know about track conditions, I worked at a Drag Strip back in the late 1960's had a 62 Chevy Impala 409 V8 2x4s and 4 speed. It ran the high 12's and a 1/10 of a second was a about a 1/2 car lenght. Bracket Raced FJ1200 for 10 years.
I thought you may have tried what I was asking about as I read you have a "SPOT" where you can test on the street where it is safe. Will let you know if 87 pump makesa difference from 60 in 2nd gear and going to about 170 or so. WOT in 5th and 6th should show if 87 is helping.

Agreed, a friend of mine runs a ZX-12 stroker, all motor, which has recorded 216mph. At one meeting we had to drain the tank when it had been filled with C16 and refill with ordinary pump gas to get it running properly.
