Hard acceletation + high gear = engine slap/noise?

I've read this problem before on here but couldn't find it. I think it has to do with the fly removal. Throttling hard on fourth and up gives a scary engine noise that sound like loose metal. It only lasts a second. Warranty is up soon and wondering if I should take her in. lots of mods and miles so not sure its covered anyway. Any help is appreciated guys ! 08 zx14 full muzzy pc3 w map flies out kn filter m1 4t 20w50. 8k on rebuilt engine. I usually run 10w40 but couldn't get it when I needed it.

Not sure if the viscosity difference would starve the cam chain tensioner much since it's basically hydraulic?? Don't know, but if you've still got some warranty time left -- I'd take her in!!

are you running a really low RPM when you go to WOT and then hearing detonation?

I've never heard detonation before so possibly. It happens at 3700 rpm in fourth when hitting hard throttle but not WOT. I always run 93 octane and have never heard it before. Maybe my map was lost? Ill reload it, changeoil to 10w40 and get some new fuel in it. My warranty is on my engine rebuild so they might frown on the mods and say I'm on my own. Is detonation permanent damage or just temporary?

That's kind of what I wondered too. I got some bad gas not long ago and they don't ping like old carbed bikes. It was bad enough I went home and drained the tank before going any further. It did have a horrible sound that sounde like metal on metal when the the throttle was twisted.

detonation is mostly a temporary condition, but if left unnoticed can creat permanent damage, and severe damage at that.

I got a bad batch of fuel once and it pinged, made a clapping (diesel) sound at low rpm under high load, like more than 50% throttle at ~ 3000 rpm or less.

If your map is off, it could be back firing through the intake with a slight hesitation, then pulling away clean. It will feel like it stutters and pops, then takes off. Too much ignition advance can cause this too.
