Pin stripe on rims?

ZX14 is on stands and I'm taking my wheels off and some of the bolts and foot pegs to finish the Blue/ Black theme I've envisioned since I bought it new in 06.

Ordered new tires and some different heel guards but was thinking of adding a "Royal Blue" pin stripe around the wheels. I've seen this on other bikes, how hard is it to add this to the rims? Should the rims be off the bike when applying? Where can I get the tape and the tool for application? Is it easier and cheap to have someone else apply(please note that I have always done all of my work since the bike was purchased)?

check ebay...........remember seeing rim stripe kits there - - i wouldn't pay someone else to apply them, shouldn't be a difficult job since they're just decals........make sure the rims are CLEAN before applying and probably be better if they were off the bike so you can do it easier

MUCH easier with wheels off the bike laying flat.

it might take you a few attempts to figure it out, not always easy for everyone. it does require a certain technique and some skill to get it nice and even. Otherwise it will look like a drunk put them on.

I tried it on mine and had such a difficult time I threw the crap away. The problem is that it may look good to you but once the wheel spins it has to be perfect or it is noticable. I basically wasted $20. Good Luck

I wouldn't mind having some blue stripes, but I would be better off to pay someone to do it before I got pissed and threw it away

I wish I could paint that good!! I'm having a hard time finding companies/people that does quality work for some of the things I want to do. It took me a while to even find a company I felt competent to even powder coat my rims. I thoght the internet might render an avenue for me to accomplish the results that I'm looking for.

A good pinstripe artist can pull off rim stripes without much problem at all -- but your wheels are constantly subjected to chipping, brake dust, and road grime.........if you have them painted on, definitely get them clear coated afterwards -- unless powdercoating can't be clear coated??

YOU guys won't believe this but I bought my tires Yesterday fron derbycycles.com and picked standard shipping. They are located in IL and I live in FL and tires just arrived at my door(11:25am). I'm amazed of the speed in delivery and I tried the Pilot Powers Pure for the front and they are awesome looking! I will give an update of the performance after a while...

I applied my stripes with the wheels on and elevated off the ground.
Not hard at all , I used a roll of red tape I found at autozone . You can get them straight that way too.
