going for new front rear tires

OK so I'm going to take my wheels off and get them powder coated, I remember some members here recommendating the rear size should be 190/55/zr7 instead of the 190/50/zr17 that normally are on our bikes. Are the differences major or just personal preference? What sites are you guys currently getting good prices on front/rear set of Michelins? Thanks!

The 55's are taller and more rounded profile. Better for the turns.

55's are also better for top speed...

I recommend the Michelin Power Pure's 120-70 front & 190-50 rear

I'm running Pirelli corsa 3's in 120/70 & 180/55, makes the bike seem lighter & turn much quicker. You pay big for that 190/55. By the way did you get the wheel bearings done?

Superman T, I know cyclegear in Orlando usually runs some good tire deals on Michelins. I got mine really cheap through them. I am running the Micheling 2ct on the front. Oh, and the 190/55 is strictly a better turning tire if I were you with your bike being stretched I would only run the 190/50 as you will have more contact patch.

I have used both the 190/50/17 and now I have 190/55/17

I Promise the 55 series will make a ZX-14 turm Much quicker......I went with Michelin Pilot Power 2T in the 190/55/17 best Sport Touring tire I have tried on the 14 so far. I have a second set of wheels with Michelin Pilot Road 2CT 190/50/17, they will last longer on the open road but and are a major improvement over the stock tires. But I had a hard time finding 190/55/17 in the Pilot Road 2.

I had to ride Mike's 14 with 190/55/17 in the Ozarks mountains and then got on my 14 with 190/50/17 I Promise they turn and make a 14 handle better....now if you like to come off the line a 190/55/17 is NOT for you. Smaller center patch. Anyone who says a 50 is better in the turns has not tried a 55 .....read all you want. I do not post B.S. this Is a fact.

I have not used the new new Pilot Pure but before you buy a new tire look and see if the rear is a round profile like a 50 is then look at a 55 and see if they have a angle on the sidewalls. maybe some of the new 50 series have more of a angle then the two different 50 series I have tried so i am not calling anyone a liar......just posting what I know works for the brand of tire I have tried.

I just went back to the 190/50 after coming off a 190/55..........I can tell there's a bit of a difference -- but then again if I want her to turn, I throw her in no matter whats rolling under it.

Not yet Zixxer- taking those out this morning. I found the best tire deals(and I shopped around) on derbycycle.com. I bought Pilot Pures for the front and Pilot Powers for the back. I spent $230 for both. I had good wear and performance on that Pilot Power in the back so I didn't feel comfortable buying something different this time. I did however get the Power Pure for the front to see how the "new" technology/trend performs.

My bike is getting an upgraded look so I can't wait to see what it looks like after it's all back together. I will post pics! My vision of Blue/Black theme is coming together, slowly buy surely

Way to go Shane.no chicken stripe on your 14 thumbs UP. I run the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT too. It's still new so I will see how the milage does vs the Pilot Road 2s. I am trying
the 190/55/17 this time. It has a more V looking tread pattern than my Road it was more round. Turns quicker but less center patch when I gas it in 1st gear, easy to smoke the tire :-) or easier than the 50 series. Both are a major improvement over the stock tires.

Just mounted up a set of Pilot Road 2CTs yesterday. Man, I love putting new hoops on a bike. Feels so much nicer with proper profiles. So far, I like the way the bike feels. Has a nice balance to it, and it turns in nice and smooth with no surprises. No chance to get crazy with it yet...
