Fly Removal

OK! Firstly I know this topic has been dealt with since 2006 so please respond with an understanding of what I 'perceive' to be correct....I have recently purchased a 14ZZR 2008 model and I have become acquainted to the low rev laziness of this bike, is it SAFE to remove the flies? The bike is a standard machine, all I've done is added two "Scorched" slip-on pipes (very popular in South Africa) similar to the "Yoshimura"
A healthy response would be appreciative.

YES....remove the flies...it is safe. You will need to utilize a power commander to optimize the air/fuel ratio for best performance. Since the standard fly operation only has a negative affect on power below 6000 rpm's, that is where the air/fuel ratio will be most affected by fly removal.
All scoots benefit from fine tuning the fuel system to achieve the proper air/fuel ratio, so the power commander will benefit thru out the rpm range.
On my 2006 i removed the flies when i had the stock exhaust,a BIG difference was made in torque and acceleration in those lower rpm's. There was a slight leanness noted at cruise that caused a bit of rough runnin, but was not that bad. The 2008 and later 14's are not as lazy as the 06 7 07's, but yours will still benefit.

So do it!!

I would recommend a PCIII or PCV with a suitable map. From the charts I've seen the bike will run very lean without it.

I removed the flies on my 09 and fitted the PCV/Autotune + Yoshi slip-ons. With a decent map the torque from 2000 to 4000 rpm is much improved. Actually I'd say the delivery from 2000rpm is vicious!

only remove if you are going to be remapping. Otherwise, leave it alone for now.

No, but 3750 is pretty interesting .........................

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Thanx for the great responses! So a PCIII or PCV would have to be purchased first before the fly removal and I totally agree. Are there any particular differences between a PCIII or PCV or is one slightly better than the other? Secondly, am I able to purchase these directly from their makers without going to some South African importer.
Hey! Flame On! I really like your response pic LOL!!

The main difference is that PCV is half the size of PCIII and Autotune plugs into it, you do need a lambda sensor though.

If no one wants to send you one overseas try www.starracing.com and ask to speak to Reed. I know he ships a lot of stuff overseas to people. Great guy to deal with.
