Wee, I am certainly not taking away from your accomplishments of running an 8.90 like 4 times. My question is you and Dusty both run the same gearing and out weigh him by 50 or more pounds he should not be running the same MPH as the two of you. Do you agree with that statement? When I look at Dustys tickets it looks like the gearing really helps on the 60ft but thats it. So is it the gearing that limits the ZX14 to those 8.90 passes? IMO I just don't think the 14 needs that much gear and your time slips prove it over and over again.

my 14 isn't running 150 right now, and its not running 123 in the 1/8th either, tnt is still getting better, . why don't you ever ride Dusty's 14?

Leonidas or anyone else, why would16/48 be the limiting factor if he is not running out of gear in 6th or wheeling to much ?

Sincerely,
BLK ICE
First is that you are adding an extra shift which impacts MPH. Have you ever hit the rev limiter at any point on a pass? What happens? You lose MPH. Secondly, and this is just my opinion but the 14 is not an RPM machine like a 1000 or a 600. They will move because they make power and torque. On a dyno chart at what RPM does the 14 start to lose power? It stops pullling hard up top which is where the 48 tooth sprocket keeps your motor the whole pass. I don't think between shifts the rpms fall enough to keep putting down power.

you is correct sir .. but if everybody was a fly weight then gearing no matter .. so to prove your point add 100lbs to your bike and see what happen to your ET'S AND MPH with tall gearing ..

I see both sides of it, but my bike's fastest pass ever was 9.15 at 148 or 149 mph.

After the sprocket change it's faster, but same mph...

Any other changes? Such as wheelbase, tire, fuel, mapping, weather?

Yes there were a few variables, but none to see me gain a consistant .15 sec.
Same fuel
map was recently changed but before remapping it ran 9.05-9.09
different tire. Had shinko and full bore, now on Michelin power race.

I'm sure that it was the tire...

You guys have to remember that these guys race 1/8th mile EVERY week... and only get to run 1/4 every now and then. If they weren't so worried about short times it might make sense to gear up a little for the 1/4... but I would much rather run faster 1/8th's if that's what I race all the time.

It helps me keep the wheel down and get low 1.30s 60 footers .. May not work for everyone but it works for me ..
