I put a vortex cap on mine, and took the smallest drill bit i had and drilled a little hole in the cap.. i mean tiny and never had a hiss problem.

The used to be a thread explaining how to fix it. I believe it went something like this........

1. Take the contraption all apart.
2. Cut off 2 coils off the spring
3. Put it back together

I am assuming Taking 2 coils off the spring dosent allow it to seal. I wash my bike with water a lot, and if you do so I don't think this would be the best ideas.

My 1986 FJ1200 has done this for 20 years as does my 14. I would think the vent of pressure is a good thing. Not sure I would mess with it. hey I am no expert but the factory did this for a reason???

I didn't do it to my bike, but I thought about it. I just remember reading how to make it stop.

I started mixing water with my gas (50/50) and the hiss went away plus I did not have to spend as much to fill the tank.

The steam from the water will clean off the carbon on the top of the pistons. The hiss will go away but a new sound will come knocking at your door. :-) Funny pic but he looks a liitle drunk.

I think now it will let moisture in during the winter months. Keep the gas tank FULL in
winter time now (rust). Not sure on the 14 but on my old FJ1200 it has a flapper valve that lets the pressure in the tank out (hissing) by blowing compressed air in the vent you may have damaged the one way flapper valve. I may be wrong.just sayin.

yes, 1. remove the cap assembly from the tank and turn upside down 2. remove screws and cover (keep upside untill re-assembled) 3. remove vent pressure spring, cut 2 coils from spring, stretch spring to original length. 4. re-assemble and install
this takes about 5-10 minutes and yes the vent still seals so water won't get in the tank or gas out if you turn the bike upside down. all you have changed is the psi at which the the vent vents which gets rid of the 80's computer modem noise
