Ceramic Bearings? Are ceramic bearings worth the extra $$$ for just street riding.

No.
You have to look at the fact that the normal bearings will have a life for approximately 10years, easy!
With normal riding and some other harder stuff.
If you have the monies and want the 'I have' factor, then you might as well go for the CF wheels as well.

ummmmmmmmm I have a 1986 FJ1200 with almost 60,000 miles on it. Just installed new tires and the bearings turn just fine by hand. But in the 20 odd years I have owned it I have not used a high pressure car wash on the wheels.

For all the people that said no. Really don't know what ur talking about. First off if u don't really know u can ask Brock who test them on a regular. Two i use them and my top end is so much better. and on the dyno. It shows a 5hp. So the right answer show be yes. cause anything can help make u a little more faster is always good.

can't say I'd spend that money just for street riding. Save it for some wheels instead. Dragstrip I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Well maybe we do know what we're talking about because we read the question.
It didn't say are ceramic bearings any good. It said "Are ceramic bearings worth the extra $$$ for JUST STREET RIDING" If you are riding the 14 on the street to the level where ceramics would make a difference you are either one hell of a rider or very foolish indeed. For us mere mortals the answer is still no.
Just my take on it.

No for street riding. I'll sell you a ceramic sticker for $50 and that will save you a lot of money. Your buddies will be impressed and you'll get laid more often.

What exactly is ceramic? The bearings are made of glass ceramic or something? Ive heard of the term used on LSR bikes but i don't know exactly what makes it so desirable.

I can tell you that there is no comparison. The ceramics spin MUCH more easily than the oem. However, that video is a flawed comparison due to the different wheels used in each segment.

Ceramic bearings are very nice and do what they are supposed to do for drag racing. I had them in my 600 and it really made a difference at the track. I would not even consider buying them if all I did was street ride.

Shane did you see any gain in MPH in the 1/4 mile? Or at Maxton?

I don't know. But the fact that they make pushing the bike much easier equates to less rolling resistance. The gain, however small, is there...but is it worth the money??
I would say "YES" if a championship is at stake...where .001 makes the difference. Otherwise, it depends on how much you have to push your bike around.
For me, I push the bike around a lot in the staging lanes and pits...and it is easily worth the cost. The bike moves like a bicycle compared to stock bearings.

The gains would be too small to quantify, imo. But, as I say, if it is easier to push the bike around...the gains, however small, are there.

sounds reasonable, I wouldn't mind having them. but if you sold these I bet you could find hp and mph lol

Yes i had them in my 2006 zx14 ... I really don't think i saw any gain ...BUT it sure was better pushing it round the pits .. I would have just for that reason if they didn't cost so damn much ..

Never had them personally, but I've had friends with them installed on their track bikes and they DO make some difference -- you get a 'little' quicker acceleration, better HP to the ground, and when you pull the clutch at speed she will almost coast forever!! AND a good point for street riding/touring is better MPG!! Dont know how much more, but they allow the bike to roll using less power - so, you WILL gain some mileage........that's just basic math........BUT they are expensive little boogers so you may have to ride your bike for 20 years to make your money back at todays gas prices ____________
