From dragstrip to sporttouring

Just spent 4 days and 1500 miles on my 91 ST1100 (55k miles) and I have come to the conclusion that a big sport tourer is just not for me. I bought it at a decent price to try out the sport touring rig thing for myself. Not for me. Nice bike, just a bad fit for me. Will be selling that off this week.

I am going to change my 14 from strip duty to sport touring duty. Got to get it all back to street trim and then work on the comfort mods. First up will be LSL bar kit. I'll work on getting a different windscreen next and then see if I need lower pegs or not. The seat for SURE will be reworked for two-up comfort. I'll also see about a rear shock if it gets that far. Got to see if I can make this thing comfy for me.

Does anyone make lowered pegs for the passenger? Kinda cramped for a long-legged blond that goes on the back.

The most comfortable bike I have ridden has been my ZRX. Done many a long trip on that thing and loved it. Going to see if I can make this hotrod as comfortable as that was.

LSL barkit
Seat redone or new seat with backrest for my babe
Taller windscreen if needed
Throttle Meister bar ends with throttle rocker (already have)
Lower pegs if needed
Rear luggage rack and possibly hard luggage all around

Let the teardown and rebuild begin!!!!

I'll be needing some parts:
Stock kickstand (can trade for my cut/welded stocker)
Seat (can trade for my catalyst drag seat)
Stock undertail (can trade for tiger racing undertail)
Might be more as I go....

I'll also be looking to trade off my Alien Head for a much quieter end can (carbon preferred).

I will have to look to see if I even need the undertail. I just figured water might be an issue and the stocker is much more sealed up. Might not even be an issue at all. Got to tear it back apart an see what I got to work with.

Is this your idea or the "long-legged blond's"??

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I am retiring from the AF in a few months and starting a new career. The ST didn't fit me at all. Got a nice hotrod that see's little to no seat time. Why let it sit. Might as well do it up and ride the damn thing. I am just lucky enough that she enjoys riding as much as I do and loves bikes.

Making some serious life changes here...don't have time right now for the strip and it is just sitting. Can't see having it sitting on a trailer when I can be riding it.

If you're serious about touring on a 14 it might be a good idea to put the centre stand on your goodie list. Much easier to lube the chain that way.

I purchased a Kawasaki Euro OEM center stand and ordered a trick rubber stop holder from Ti-Force.
The kit has the rubber stops but the mounts are on the stock mufflers. Hope this helps Jon.

I have a Concours seat (way more comfy than the stocker), buell pegs and bar risers. I can ride all day with that setup.

I'll make time to drag yer ass down the 1320 before sport touring it...after that, I'll run ya ragged on a road course if you'd like. Then you can cry and whine all the way home with yer tail between yer legs.

Silly boy, you know ZX14's can smoke Vmax's and than ride from the track to home without stoping every 150 KM or so to gas up.......

The ZX14 in touring mode would still eat a Vmax.
