Shink Hook up tire

To all of you using this tire PLEASE keep a close watch on it. A pro street rider on a turbo busa at Milan Drag Way came off her bike at 170mph at the 1000 ft mark due the bead of the tire giving out. She is doing well except for a broken wrist and and a shoulder injury. She was running 10psi in the tire at the time. She only had 5 passes on the tire. After talking to others, she learned that this has happened to two others riders that were able to keep the bike up. I know that others have run this tire with no problem, including myself, all I'm saying is be careful.

+1 Scott. Last tire was mounted with that gel stuff and 6 months later it still slings all over the bike...

Who was the rider that went down?

I thought Brock sold a product for the BST wheels that stops spinning and helps mounting the tire??

The rider's first name is Eunice, not sure of the last, but races out of the Chicago area. Eklipse what is the name of that stuff you are using?

Sad to hear this happened. I thought she had retired from racing due to medical issues.

We met her briefly, at MIR last year. Glad to hear she is going to be ok.

It wasn't on her bike, her bf let her use his bike for the weekend, believe it was the first time she has been out all year.

rumor going around is, the tire expanded so much it broke the bead, like i said rumor. i don't know how true that is

Expanded so much that it broke the bead?

I wonder if the bead was fully seated to begin with? It is hard to call these things...but if you have ever mounted a tire, you know how hard it is to break the bead once seated.

Like I say, glad she will be ok. Maybe the rumors will stop once details have been posted.

Maybe there was less air then should have been, & could have been on/off the gas causing alot of flex in the rear tire...I can see 500hp causing the tire to break the bead

yeah, i'm sure it could very well have been a combination of multiple things then just blaming the tire, and tire only.

but who knows yet??

I've run as low as 7 psi, tire bascially flat and haven't had any problems. I was worried about it, butwas trying everything to get traction

???? Went down to 10 lbs , and worried but no problems , just don't see why I had to drop the pressure so low on a Hookup , just to get down the track?
I know I;m not the only one , and I'm glad I pulled the P.O.S. off my bike before it popped! Sorry if you guys love em but I never hooked with a hookup anyway , and I had to drop the air pressure too low just to make a good pass? yEAH, IT'S AN UNSAFE PIECE OF SHIT! Just glad I pulled my Hookup off before it popped too! You get what you pay for !

If you have to run 7-10 psi to hook it's not the tire. On a good track I can run 20+ psi and on a bad one I have to drop it to 10 plenty of times.

10 psi on the hook up? I would blame the track or shock set up first. we have three bikes running them and it's the first tire we have to get wet before we start the burnout or it flat out won't spin. one bike is running 8.80 on it at 64 inchs with 26 psi in it.

you have to give her credit for trying to stay up. at one point the bike is sliding sideways and she pulled it back around. The hook up is a cheap tire that is meant for us low budget racers. I mean I have $3800 in my whole bike. I use the Hook up because for me it works really good and it's cheap. But if you have a $35K bike would you not want a M/T shootout tire on it? Plus she could have hit something on the track, anything could have happened.

Just curious, did she hit the other rider? It looks like she was close.

She gets credit for holding on as long as she could, I don't think she had much of a option at 170 mph

I would imagine that the Shinko Hook Up is probably on 85% of bikes at the track. With that, the probability that when a bike goes down due to a tire it's a Shinko thats on the bike. Running 10 PSI on a 400-500 HP bike seems like a death trap to me. I am glad she is ok but I think that I would wait and post details after I figured out what actually happened.

................... which caused the tire to break away from the rim? ............

....................................................... or ............................................................

................... was leaning because the tire had already separated from the rim? ..........

Seems they diagnosed the cause of the crash awfully quickly .........................
