Who else has had this happen?

Disclaimer first:

I did NOT do this! I let my friend ride it, and he scraped a peg AND the fairing.

I weigh about 185, he is probably more like 250. My guess is there was not enough pre-load for his body weight, plus a whole lotta leaning!

So, anybody go a new fairing piece for me? Other than these scrapes, the bike is pristine and I want to keep it that way.

Mine used to be almost worn through on both sides and both my midpipes were ground down.
I don't let my bike scrape anything anymore since I had my Lower fairings painted to match the bike.
I still ride as fast or faster but I hang off a lot more now.
Still even though your rider had some weight on him , that bike was leaned way over

Other than being ripped off at the dealership, where is the best place to get OEM replacement fairings?

He rides a 1999 'Busa, we swapped bikes so we could compare.

He said he felt like he was catching a lot more wind, and that the clearance was a lot lower on the ZX (thus the dragging peg/fairing).

I wasn't impressed with his busa. It has over 40k miles, and felt sluggish and sloppy compared to my practically-new ZX-14.

be willing to bet your suspension is too soft and one of the reasons he drug hard parts. Normally that don't happen if the boingy bits are set up correctly.

That L/side lower fairling is about $170 from dealer. I had to replace my r/side on my 07 SE. Also if you replace it, you will need to purchase 2 foam pads for the inner part of the fairing. They are about 10$ a piece

If he was a true friend, he would replace it with a new piece. If he did that to my bike I would kick his ass.

$114 is also what I found.

In the meantime, I'll keep watching ebay or hope for a good Samaritan with a nice used one.

Also thinking about smoothing it out and getting a can of aerosol paint from color-rite. Anybody else given this a "shot"?

Yeah-- In a sense, that scrape is sorta cool. You might want to keep that a while. JK --not cool! I agree with other comment up there asking why TF this D__--wad isn't offering to pay for new fairings. It wasn't even an accident.

I've only repaired small pitting to my lowers. I'd say you will need to do some sand papering with the ultrafine grit paper made for automotive work. You will need to make the surface perfectly smooth again. Then spray your color. You could hit it with a spray of primer first because you are down to bare plastic. I am not sure on this but I bet that colorright 08 SE red comes in an undercoat and a overcoat. Probably going to be a little tough to match the OEM color. Might be better to just repaint the whole lower. Then a nice coat of clear. If you don't want the hassle, I always hear lowers are fairly cheap.

Back when I had a ZX-11 a friend lent me a modified set of stock exhausts which were "straight through". We went on a track day and I thought I was just scraping the right footrest but it turned out to be the corner of the right-hand exhaust can too, chamfered right down.

I was mortified and apologised to the owner, he thought it was great though and another friend immediately wanted that exhaust for his bike. Something about street-cred' or pub bragging rights.

Why not leave the scraped fairing lower on the bike and keep the replacement in your garage? People try really hard to get rid of chicken strips, this is better.
