AMA Dragbike is Dead and Gone!

Effectively immediately, AMA Dragbike will cease operations indefinitely.

Regretfully, today’s economic climate, rising costs and decreasing revenue makes it fiscally irresponsible to continue doing business. The final details are being worked out at this time.

"Motorcycle Drag Racing has been a passion for both of us for many years and we have given all of ourselves to this sport," said Brandi Neithamer, Vice President of AMA Dragbike. "We knew this year would be very difficult given the economic conditions but we never anticipated it would go downhill so quickly. Scott and I have a tough road ahead of us to close the business, and we hope to receive the support of the community during this difficult time."

"If there are any parties interested in starting another sanction that will carry on the professional level and values of AMA Dragbike, please feel free to contact us," she continued. "We will do everything in our power to help you succeed."

AMA Dragbike would like to thank all the racers, sponsors and fans that have helped support the organization (formerly AMA Prostar) over the last 21 years. We have always strived to hold safe, fair and exciting racing events, and we appreciate all that have helped us achieve that goal.

Best wishes to all in our racing community,

Scott Valetti
Brandi Neithamer

I could imagine it was literally costing them thousands per race. It is a very sad announcement, however
I am certain that someone will start a new series. Who knows maybe BMW will help out.

After seeing so many drag strips come and go over the years, it was no suprise to me. I saw pic's of the last few events and there was almost no one in the stands? What a shame. Friend use to race I.D.B.A.
etc no paying sponsors and fans, nowhere to drag race...........well I do have "A Spot" for a mile or so to
fine tune a map lol I have caught a lot of banter about 2nd gear roll on's at 60 and have a mile to see how quick you are. Got old towing a 86 FJ1200 around to different towns to find a slick track. Drive back and find time for the kids. Waiting on warranty to expire on 14 before I install extensions and go ruin a clutch or two
re-learning how this bike will launch. 4 days in Ozark Mountains was a lot of fun. Every turn was a view likea "Post Card". What a SHAME.............. sad.

I didn't care for the AMA rules, how they ran classes, etc but I have always tried to support our sport regardless. With semdra having problems here looks like motorcycle drag racing's future isn't looking too hot.

My hope is someone will take it over and revamp it .. We really could use some races like AMA Prostar down here in FL .. Places like BMP or Moroso you can race all year round .. Atco and places like that are just to damn far for most of us to travel to ..

Well they need to do a series where they can have races staggered like say 10 races total but only 6 count towards points that wy if a few are to far away you don't have to go. hell the closest one to me is 9 hrs as it is. how about a few in the midwest like Iowa, ill, kansas etc.

your right. The way it's set up you can't miss many races before your out of the points race. It cost some serious $$ to travel to every AMA event.

What's the one thing you always hear about NHRA events. The sound. the thunder of the cars. In AMA Dragbike some of the fastest streetbikes are all Turbo. The harder the turbo spins the more quite th bike is. Most of them are as quite as a stock exhaust bike going down the 1/4 mile. To the untrained spectator in the crowd it doesn't look like much even though the bikes are flying. Back in the old days when they were running Nitrous with big open headers the crowd would stand up in the stands when the bikes started backfiring as they shifted down the track. Loud is what the crowd liked. The Economy and ever increasing rules that put some riders traveling to races just to get turned away at Tech. They catered to the wrong classes and pushed your grass roots racers to the back. Not saying I could do it. when one person dominates it wont be long before there is one person. I like dragracing bikes but even here where I live it's dying as well. Sad.

wtf is going on here in the states? I thought drag racing is what America is about? Americans have an obsession with speed and racing. Has the time finally come that baby boomers raised a bunch of pussies that don't care for drag racing?! I'm 32 and I'm very pissed with this announcement. Soon we will all be in electric vehicles and racing will be a fairy tale.
