What they said, the power 1 would be my number one choice of street tire, and the shinko slick if a dot tire is not required

The Shinko "Hook Up" is supposed to be the stickiest shinko, and is DOT approved. I believe they are around $130 fom Spencer Cycles right now. Some racing classes are going to require a DOT tire and the slick will not be allowed in those classes.
If you do a fair amount of street riding, a Power One or leftover Power Race will do the trick. They are extremely sticky tires as well (I have run both), but will likely last longer on the street than the Shinko "Hook Up".
Btw, nothing is likely to hook better than the Mickey Thompson you are using now. At 71" of wheelbase, I would either stick with the Mickey or give the new Shinko a try. Call Doug Ray at Spencer Cycles and he can give the details on all of the Shinko's.
Tire pressure is really going to depend on the prep of the track. I would start around 18 psi and if it spins drop it one psi at a time until it hooks. If it hooks at 18, add one psi pressure until it spins and then drop it one psi.

I have tried so many different tires and the power one is the best tire so far! But we all have different opinions.

tire will only work as good as your suspension and clutch hand.

Compton, Good point. I think one main prob by watching the video from our cam is, Instead of sliding the clutch out i'm just dumping it?? Plus causes some bog to the motor as well sometimes.
Another thing....i guess the more seat time the better you'll get huh?? We usually only run bout 8lbs in the tire. hmmm?

I had bad tire spin problems when my clutch steels were warped. The clutch would not slide it would just grab causing tire spin. I personally run the P1 but have held the Shinko Hook Up and it is a very nice tire.

Wow 8psi? I figure that would cause the rim to slide a little inside the tire no? Mark a white chalk across the rim and tire to make sure its not sliding or spinning inside the tire.

Yea, back when i used to work for a shop that built drag cars, we would see alot of the high powered cars with sticky rubbers w/ air pressures dropped would spin its wheels inside the tire. We would mark the wheel and tire with a tire crayon to see if its slipping or not. When you see the line starting to separate you know. If you are experiencing this, youll have to run more air or have the wheel knurled where the beads lip rests, this helps. Some of the crazier drag cars they made had bead locks to keep the rim from spinning.

I have to run 8 psi at a local 1/8 mile track and I marked my rim/tire with chalk and it turned it about 2" on one pass and never moved again after that. not enough to matter in anything.

The new Shinko Hook up is a great tire. The 1000 will go to 70" 1.34 60ft. hand clutch. Power one is good but the new hook up is where it's at. If you drop the hammer with no clutch slip not much of anything shy of a flat slick will work.
