Brocks TiWinder

Well, tonight was my first time at the track trying out my new exhaust and boy oh boy am I disappointed. First off I want to make sure that I don't point fingers at Brocks products. Anyways here are the changes that I made since last time out. I added Brocks TiWinder a Adams pan and I lowered the front one more inch. I ran Brocks SideWinder map for the first time and also MR12 for the first time. My MPH tonight was only 153 on 6 passes and my best ET was an 8.84. After making my first pass I said to myself that the bike felt down in power and once I got my ticket I was correct. I really don't know where to go from here. I put my SMEG map back in the bike and I hope that helps or it could be that MR12 sucks? Who knows? Any suggestions?

Well i didn't think it would be any faster than the Smeg ...It should run pretty much the same .. Mine ran the same ETs with Brocks older sidewinder Vs my smeg .. The only thing the sidewinder does is let you lower the bike and that should help your ETs ..

You're not going to lose 6 mph from that pipe, I'm sure of that. I ran within 1-2 mph of my normal mph, and I did it without full bodywork on the bike. So, to me, the mph is going to be very comparable. The main benefit, as Lee says, is to get the bike lower for better 60 foots. Some may claim big power or mph increases from a Sidewinder, but I wouldn't buy into that too much. Most all of your benefit will come from being able set the chassis up better.

Load the Street Meg map and the Sidewinder Map into your Power Commander software and do a map comparison. Look at the 100% throttle column. That should give you an idea of where the two pipes make their power. If you are using more fuel in an area, you are probably making more power, since those two race maps are likely tuned to about the same a/f overall.

I read something about MR12 performance falling off in the heat/humidity? I'm not sure of the details, but you can do a search on Psychobike. Just curious, what were the track temps/conditions? I would use the Sidewinder map, and put MR9 in the bike...you know how that fuel performs for you.

Is mr9 still avaliable? If I I understood correct from talking with vp, mr9 is no longer made and mr12 replaced mr9.

What's the changes in the smeg map and the tiwinder map?

My local track still has MR9. There was similar talk a while back, when the last new "MR" fuel came out. I guess we'll see how it goes.

I've compared the maps, but I don't recall the results. They are different, however. Like I say, my mph was very close, all things considered. I think that using the same fuel to compare is the best bet. You may also want to search around and see what kind of map changes are required for the MR12.

I was not expecting any MPH increase with this pipe as you guys suggested. The only reason I bought the pipe was for ground clearance. I just was not expecting to run my lowest MPH ever with it. I am almost certain that it is the fuel making it choke. I noticed too that with MR9 my bike would backfire on every shift. With the MR12 it did not backfire at all. I am going this Sunday to the track and will be running pump gas. If my mph stays the same and/or picks up even I will know its the fuel. Shane, It was very hot/humid last night zero headwind. I don't know the details.

Price lowered by $1:

Now, after the MR9 goes in Leonidas's bike, I will be raising the price by $51.

I was told by a local dist. just 48 hrs. ago that mr9 was still avaliable. Was also told by the same person that mr12 was "BETTER". I have only run mr9 and really liked the results, was just asking about the 12 to give it a try, but have'nt seen any around these parts.

Sounds like your bike may not be tuned correctly for the new fuel.

According to VP's website MR12 is a direct replacement for MR9. Oh well, guess I will just drop another $130 to see if MR12 was the problem.

When you find the best map/fuel combo for the TiWinder...let me know. I'm stuck running 9.20 @ 148-150 right now...pump gas, 200 lbs unsuited, very hot and extremely humid!!

I tend to get better ET's 'not' using the Brocks sidewinder map. Best results so far are the Gen 3 race map during the winter and the Gen 3 street map during the summer.

I really just need to get my fat ass on a diet and stick to it.

Well, went back out today to see if I could figure out why I lost MPH. Long story but I could not manually adjust my PCIII so on my first 3 runs my mph was 151 with MR12. I drained the MR12 and put in 87 pump and picket up almost 2 mph. I think I know the answer to my own question but if 87 pump made it mph more wouldn't it make sense that the bike is running way lean? The conditions today were just shitty 95 degrees and high humidity. I think MR12 has 2% more oxygen content than MR9 and in conjuction with the bigger head pipes makes for a lean condition.......thoughts?????

I could not take the seat off because the seat bolt stripped in the subframe. I would have liked to dump more fuel into it and see what it would have done. I went 126 in the 1/8th but only 151 mph. I did run an 8.80 on that pass but it is not balk halfing for some reason.

You sold your other pipe to fast ... Had it been me i would have kept it and tested it back to back same day .. That way you would have known for sure .. I know when i used a brocks sidewinder i had great MPH but the ETs stayed about the same ...

Bigger primary head pipes will normally moves peak TQ and HP rpm points futher up the RPM scale, whcih could happen in your case, have you tried tweaking shift pt closer to redline? Just my .02$

I have not changed my shift points but I am still shifting close to redline. One other weird thing is that my 1/8th mph was the same as usual but my 1/4 mph is what died.....weird? You better have some MAJOR changes done to your bike as long as its been since you've been out.

Alright, went to the track last night and ran MR12 again and as you know my bike was way down on power with the new pipe and gas. I used Brocks Sidewinder race map and richened up the PCIII 3 bars on the high side and wala! The MR12 seems to make 14's run very lean (must be due to the O2 content over the MR9). My bike ran 155 on all 7 passes in 90 degree temps and it ran 127 in the 1/8th.

Glad you got it figured out. Makes sense that the MR12 would have a higher O2 content with the claims that it makes more power than MR9.
