What would you suggest ?? (tires)
Greetings all, was a member years ago but couldn't get logged in so I rejoined....
Stock rear tire is smoked and prolly not safe anymore so now I'm looking for suggestions on replacements both front and rear....I did a search but got a bunch of threads that weren't really related..
I live and ride in upstate NY (terrible roads) and spend all mine time on the street (no tracks) and back roads so I guess we'll call it sport touring...I ran Pilot Powers as a replacement on my 12r and loved them but have not kept up with whats out on the market now or if a better tire has replaced the Pilot Powers ?? I'm a pretty big dude at 6'8" 250ish w/gear if weight factors in at all...Not really worried about price all that much as my local dealer still gives me a pretty decent racer discount..Thanks
Mike

Pilot powers still the ones to have. Mine haven't dissapointed yet and that's a good thing when you're zipping around corners.:^)

Continental Sport Attacks would fill your bill nicely. Look up the reviews on this tire and you will find nothing but praise for grip and longevity. Just my 02 cents worth.

You should try the Michelin Pilot Pures, i been hearing good reviews from fellow bikers. I personally run only Brigestone tires, mainly the BT003RS.

Weird question here but do bike tires have tread wear ratings like car tires ? So you can tell how long it would last or even how hard the tread is.

no, they have no utog ratings like car tires, not that it really matters anyways since it varies by tire manufaturers even with 2 tire brands having the same rating. Example. A falken car tire model ze512 with treadwear of 360 lasted shorter then my Yokohama tires with a treadwear of 280. It's very loosely based and seems only accurate within the same tire brand.

OK thanks just something I was pondering , it does seem to me at least that the bt014's lasted the longest on my bike.

it's a great tire for guys who just cruise it or ride mainly freeway, for me it was less then spectacular for what I used it for, it came with the bike when I bought it.

Yes you are absolutely correct , I would love to have something that gives me both but I haven't found that tire yet.

Try out the brigestone bt-016, it's plenty sticky and have a fair thread life. I managed to get 5500 hard miles out of mine when I had them on my 750.

Motorcycle superstore still had the bt014 last I look. The bt045 is strictly a touring tire, great milage but I wouldn't recommend them on a bike of our caliber.

There are plenty of good tires for this kind of riding, many mentioned here. Bt-016's, Metzeler M3's/M5's, Michelin Pilot Powers, etc... BUT, the bt-014 is crap, it was like night and day when I burned up my originals and put on some Metzeler M3's. Night and day.

Multi-compound tires work pretty good on the 14. I've ran several sets on mine, from Pirelli Diablo's to Bridgestone BT--016's.

I have really good luck with 016's on my 12. Still leaves huge darkies out of the corners, but really good feel. I don't think quite as good in the wet as the 014's but then nothing really is.
Good mileage out of them also.

Thanks for the replies everyone....I've read a lot of old posts regarding switching to a 55 rear, when you guys go with the 55 do stay with the stock size up front ??
Thanks again for all the help..

Pilot Road 2 will last 6 to 7,000 miles (no burn outs) Pilot Powers 2 about 4,000 miles.
If you like the curves go with Powers and a 55 series rear, sure turns quicker with the 55 series profile.
Yes stock size up front.
