2007 r1 wheels

I might have a chance to pick up some r1 wheels cheap. I LOVE the look of the simple thin 5 spoke wheel, plus they look really light. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any clue about their weight, axle size, fitment, ect...? Has anyone seen these mounted on a zx14?

I would start by investigating the axle diameters, and rotor diameters. Should be easy enough to find.

Then check the front rotor spacing.

I really don't recall the diameter #'s...check Ron Ayers!

Distance from leg to leg is not really an issue (you will need proper spacers anyway). The big issue is rotor spacing.

and if you only use one rotor it's even easier

Ya, I planned on it. If I'm going to be making my spacers, I should be able to line up at least 1 brake disc with the zx14 caliper.

I would think that the integrity of the wheels could be compromised with the added hp and weight? Those wheels look good I thought about getting a set but would hate to break one.I could be way off on that though.

Also I dont know if a 190 tire would fit right on that wheel?

That bike came with a 190 tire. Also, the horse power wouldn't be that different, the torque would and that shouldn't affect it. Weight might...

So you suggesting that an additional 80lbs distributed between both wheels is enough to break one? I would hate to see what would happen then if a 300lb dude were to come down hard from a 12 o'clock wheelie if that were the case. They are made with a lot of safety margin built in..... The heft from a zx14 is no different then a heavy rider on an r1. They are designed to not only withstand jumping (haven't you seen the isle of man), wheelying, ect, with a huge person mounted, and they are made to deal with it for a LONG time. The stresses of drag racing are minuscule compared to road racing (which is what this bike was built for).

you can simply swap out bearings with proper I.D and O.D to fit in the wheels and use the 14 axles. Then make some custom spacers to get them spaced correctly. Will be interesting to see how it works out. Love the look of those as well.

if you're near Tampa we can pop the wheels off mine and see exactly what you're up against

I'm about to change to wave rotors and Michelin Pure tires, and lose several more pounds off the front

Thanks for the kind gesture, but I am about as far from Tampa as I could possibly get (Washington state).

I think I'll just buy the wheels and go from there. My buddy is only asking $200, and I could always sell them for more then that if it doesn't work.....

There is some sort of reason that the 14 comes with what it has.The zx 10 wheels didnt come on the bike. im sure kawi wants to have a little more strenth because of the lbs and hp.

So everyone just leave their ZX14s stock because Kawi put that stuff there for a reason and we can't make it any better.

I think wheels are typically engineered to take 2.5 times its rated capacity. Similar to tires there is alot of overhead it can take before they actually fail. I think they will be fine on a ZX14.

If it can haul this ass, im sure the R1 wheels will be fine lol

I guess you can be the first person in-line to say "I told you so" when the wheels explode into 1000 pieces. Until that time, use common sense when posting. I already tried explaining this to you..... The zx14 wheel and r1 wheel, and any other motorcycle wheel for that matter has a strength margin built into its design. They take the maximum capacity (probably around 1200), and then probably triple it for good measure. I never carry a passenger, and I don't subject my wheels to the rigors of road racing. If you still can't understand, or just disagree, I don't care. Go bother Lyle for a while.

I guess anythings possible, this guy claims he was just riding and all of a sudden his wheels gave out...i think there is more to his story but there was no damage to the rim itself like running over a curb etc.

Haha, im not saying that will happen, because there is usually headroom when wheels are engineered but anything is possible. It could happen to a set of stock wheels that came with your bike.
