Beemer vs 14 vs busa

Just a bit of info to confirm what some of us thought to be a bit of hype.
This comes from a very reputable source also.

As a wise thread or two have pointed out, it's a "Top Speed" test and video -

With a pipe and well tuned. the:

1000 BMW makes 160 to 165 true hp (based on one bike)

1340 Busa makes 165 to 170 true hp.(based on several bikes)

1400 Kaw makes 162 to 168 true hp.(based on several bikes)

For dynojet horsepower, multiply true hp x 1.2 to get djhp (I know, I know, but I wasn't the one who made up the dynojet horsepower scale). BTW - MCN hp number aren't "b"hp -
"bhp" is "brake" hp measured at the crankshaft - not rear wheel horsepower.

The BMW has the slickest aerodynamics, then the Busa, then the Kaw - the ;lower the aerodynamic drag, the less power required to reach a set speed.

That being said - each of the bikes is electronically limited to a set top speed - so this is really just an excuse for videoing wickedly fast test

I won't be surprised to see the BMW hp #'s magically shrink as time goes on.

I thought it was confirmed that the BMW made 200hp with a pipe and power commander?

DJ hp is not "true" hp. Never has and never will be.

What is important, imo, is the power as relative to other engines. HP #'s are just that...numbers.

Absolutely correct. A lot of these guys get discouraged to find out their bike doesn't make that huge number that someone said it does. But, you know what? No one elses does either It's all relative.

My 09 ZX-14 with BMC Race, M10/M14, PC-3 mapped made 182hp.
2010 BMW S100RR mapped/tuned stock pipe made 193hp.

Same dyno.

Now move on to the next dyno ...

My ZX-14 made 196hp.
BMW made 213 (With Leo Vince mapped/tuned)

Two different dynos, almost the same bikes.

So my buddy goes out and gets a 2010 BMW S1000RR and takes it over to the shop and puts down 181hp STOCK on the same dyno I put 182hp down.

Hate to say it guys, but that lil Beemer is a beast in disguise.

And in case anyone is wondering what shop I'm talking about, it's Evan steel performance in Tucson Az. ESP has teame dup with Ironhorse BMW to put a Chris peris on the Beemer in AMA. He's been running 10th and 12th on that beemer.

As said before, DJ hp is not true hp. So many variables on a sweep test, inertia dyno.
Steady state/ eddy current dyno is the only way to get true hp. Or just take the dj hp and knock 20% from it.

N dont forget ur comparing a 1000cc motor to 1340 n 1352cc, hehehhehe, Damn them 1000's! Shouldnt they be comparing the R1/cbr1000/gixxer 1k!! Then again i like them cause my 12 is having a hard time staying wit em, somebody trade me their 14, preferably an 06 wit 2nd butterflies removed, ehaust, pcIIIusb, bmc race filter, extended n lowered, all black, smooth side panels, oh.........n a gold zzz chain, lmao! Ok maybe not trade, but lets swap for the summer! There is absolutely no body around my area that races theirs, its like 3 or 4 that ride around but nobody races it, we hit some various backroad spots n street race but no one has showed up wit a 14 yet! N from the looks at some of u guys times, i just cant figure it out. 80% busa n gixxers! Who wants to go to bike night n see 8 bikes that look just like yours?

Looks like BMW made a bad ass legit bike. Probably just bad timing. The economy is just too bad and lots of people are just trying to make it day to day. I don't see alot of people signing the dotted line and dropping 15k on one. Then include the high maintenance costs and it pushes itself even further away.

I'm happy with my 14. I can't reasonably use all the power it has on the street and it is so smooth and comfy. The BMW is pushing the envelope and in the process making our speed kings look a little long in the tooth. Probably why myself and others are "hatin".

Looks like if money is no object the BMW is the fastest bike. Hopefully this is the new standard and 5 years from now I can get me a 2013 zx10 used for around 7K and with 200hp.

1000's are in a much higher state of tune than the 14 or Busa. You may also notice that they don't have a very wide powerband either.

1000's have been equaling (or beating) the peak power of the 14, in stock form, for years now.

1000's are much less forgiving of mistakes, and they don't like heavy riders too much either.

They sure are fun to ride, though.

Just get three stock 2010 models in the same room on the same day on the same dyno under the same conditions! Jeez! Is it so hard to understand?!

Then, the next day that has similar conditions, tune 'em/pipe 'em...

Then, the next day that has similar conditions, dyno 'em...

OR just do it all in one day, lol.....................................

I agree with Shane. it's similar to the old big block vs small block dilemma. big blocks make lots of raw power in their most basic form just based on their large displacement. small blocks can make just as much but it's gonna take one tricked out (mucho mullah) small block.

If you are referring to KawaBonzai's dyno comparison....I am gonna say your post is irrelevant! The BMW made 181hp STOCK on the same dyno as KawaBonzai's 14 did at 182hp with mods!! Regardless of it being a different day, what difference could it really make...2hp??
