Is it time to switch to synth?

My '08 Zx-14 has just turned over 1,800 miles and I'm ready to change the oil (3rd change in it's life).

Question is: Should I switch to synthetic at this time?

Opening the motor oil can of worms....but welcoming any opinions!

Yes, I did at 1200 miles. The bike comes with syn from the factory.

Sounds good...now deciding which oil is the hard part:

Mobil-1 MXT4

or

Shell Rotella T 5W-40 full synth

I run Rotella T syn but I drag my bike too. If it was strictly a street bike I would be running the 15w-50 Mobil syn. Just opinions...

No problems with mine just running the factory Kawi oil with factory filter. I'm wondering if I should switch mine to synthetic also.

I switched over to Full synth at about 1800 myself. I started with 20W50 Royal Purple MC synth and now run 10w40 Amsoil MC Synth, CCT still rattles with both at start up.

I picked up some of the Rotella T6 tonight at WalMart...I'm ready to do my first oil change. (previous owner did the last two).

Wish me luck. Only thing I'm missing is the crush washer...anybody know what size so I don't have to run to the dealership?

10W40 and has 26,000 miles. he uses car filters too. I still use OEM filters, extended warranty.

Louis why the synthetic you know as soon as it gets brown its outa there. You will never get your moneys worth as often as your gonna change it. Bad part is I am as anal as you and still run dyno oil with Lucas oil additive. Kawi oil and filter, extended warranty too,and the Lucas makes for a 40 buck oil change doing it myself. : p

You can use a Nissan one or any crush washer with the 12mm hole in the middle. Its preferable to use a aluminum or copper washers instead of that paper or cork ones. Now would be a fab time to switch out to a magnetic drain plug instead of the stock one. It will collect all sorts of ferrous metals between oil changes.

The drain plug is a great idea...don't suppose you have a parts interchange number?
