Lets Talk Tuning??? Since early April when I got back to racing for 2010, I seem to have lost some power...
My bike was running 151-152mph early April.
My setup was:
Maxton Map,
87pump gas,
No air filter,
17/41gearing,
Bad brakes,
And since my bike had been sitting all winter with the same gas in it. I ran some Lucas Oil Injector cleaner in a full tank of gas.
This weekend I decided to make the following changes:
17/40 gearing,
89 pump gas,
Brocks/Wynns Power Charge, (Because I've heard good things about it)
New brakes.
MPH was down to 142-145mph this week...
I understand the air was better in early April but thats alot of MPH.
And the pipe is showing signs of running very rich.
I am going to add a new clutch next week. To see if thats the culprit.

I said all that to ask....
Are you guys having more success with or without the airfilter?
And also on 87 or 89 pump gas?
Maxton or Track Map...

I run 87 with race filter in...normally 151mph...
Although, I am now hunting why I dropped 2-3 mph over the last month...and we were running in GREAT air on a couple of those nights.
Plugs?
Injectors?
Mapping?
No idea yet...will play with mapping Friday night and see what happens. Will swap plugs next...and clean the injectors too.

Def air filter out. I just got mine tuned and a little fuel was taken out of the brocks map. I'm at 240 ft above sea level.

Is it possible that the NEW brakes have more drag on the rotors?? That along with worst air, & 89 ran from previous use 87..???

Someone mentioned possiby the brakes also. I wouldn't think that they would drag that much. I have been riding on the street and it doesn't feel or sound like they are dragging.
I agree that its probably a combination of different air and the 89pump gas, I just never would have thought that the mph would vary that much because of it.
Our Tracks elevation is 455 Feet above sea level
Gateway International Raceway....
And NHRA just ran there this past weekend so the timing system should be on point....

Nelson you really need to log the DA ...The DA can and will tell you alot ... I have had my best luck with brocks track map , the maxton map may be good for colder temps but may be a little fat in the heat ... I have run with filter in and out and found no real change in ET or MPH ... You have changed from 17/41 to 17/40 and that maybe causing your MPH to be down ..Untill you get used to the 17/40 you may lose some MPH but once you get a handle on the new gears your MPH should go up . I mostly run 87 but last time out i tried 89 and seemed to run ok , next time out i'll go back to 87 and see if my MPH comes up ..

Thanks for the info Smokin....
Your right about loggin the DA..... 87 went back in the bike today.
As far as the gear it felt like there was shit load of weight on the bike the first two runs. It would not carry the wheel.

Yes it does feel that way , but that is what us stock wheel base guys need ..With the 17/40 you can leave harder and pin the throttle faster with less wheely problems ...You will get wheelys when you start pushing it harder but you will be running much faster .. I had some 1.49 60s with 17/40 leaving at 3750 RPMs and pinning the throttle before i get to the tree ..I float the tire all the way in first gear , shift second and float the tire again .. You just need more seat time to get the hang of it ..

quote:I think your too heavy for that gearing.
I don't think he is. he's lighter then I am and I went -1 on my busa and had no issues and ran close to 151 first time out. I will say the first couple runs I thought I was leaving good untill I picked up my ticket and saw 142 and 143 mph then I started to really pay attention to my throttle and went right upu to 148 and 149 then the 150.48. same kind of mph as I use to run with -1 in the front!

I should still be able to go 148 with my weight... Im gonna stick with it throughout the summer.
