OEM Exhaust
I was wandering if anyone has modified the stock exhaust. I was thinking about punching hole in baffle to make louder, cant afford aftermarket right now, cause I got toomuch other stuff to buy to fix wrecked bike. But, I would still like to hear some noise!

I hate to say this but if you are on a tight budget and want to hear it you can buy some zummo style mufflers off of e-bay for around 20 bucks each and do a little fab work and it doesnt sound to bad. Dont drill out the stock pipes because it will just sound like ass. do some archiving and there is a thread from NY14 i think is his screen handle on this. Not sure if thats his right screen name or not as he doesnt post here because Fish pissed him off with his opinion of the mod. i believe the quote was to the effect "when the time is right financially i'm sure one of our sponsors would be glad to help fill your exhaust needs''. Fish feel free to chime in here if your memory is better thsn mine.

Yes that's exactly what it will sound like .
I've seen one guy at the rock store one time who hollowed out his stock exhaust and installed some cheap pep boys glass pack mufflers inside.
It sounded good actually and his work on welding the pipes back together was almost factory looking.

+3 do NOT do it! You will not like it. the only thing you'll get is a real exhaust faster. You'll make your bike sound like a beater Honda 350 SL from 1974... mark my words. Put down the drill now!

Back in 2006 I performed a bunch of mods on my 14. Since i started my mods early there was no K&N/BMC available yet, so we made our own hi-flo filter, c/case evac system, removed the secondaries. The last mod i did before mapping was drilling the stock mufflers.
We drilled one 5/8" hole into the baffle plate down in the main tube, and drilled four 1/2" holes thru the end cap of the mufflers, going thru the 4 holes already there.
The results of the muffler drilling was a gain at peak (@ 9500 rpm) of 2.5 H.P. with a gain at 10,760 rpm of 4.5 h.p. Torque thru the rpm range was improved with a gain at the peak of 1 pnd/ft.
With all the mods the a/f rato was close in some areas and waaaaaay off in others. Mapping really woke this thing up. The results after mapping was a further gain of 4.1 H.P. at the peak, a gain of 4.4 at 10,760 rpm. Peak torque was increased by 2.06 pnd/ft. This skoot really hauled butt after.
The muffler drilling produced a sound of mixed qualities, deffinately a bit louder than stock, no wheres as loud as a full system or slip-ons. It was deceptive enough that no one ever noticed!
