Synthetic Oil! Which one?
Hi Guys!
I'm soon due for an oil change and I'm hoping I will receive a good answer on what oil to use in my 14. I've done some research and the Mobil1 V Twin seems a good choice given the high temperatures it can handle, however there is always an opinion. Also the change intervals? Synthetic Oils given their high price, I would imagine at least 10 000Km using the bike in a normal fashion for breakfast runs and no track days.
What say you?

Rotella 5w40 (jaso ma certified for wet clutches). $19.50 a gallon at walmart.

I run Mobil 5w30 in mine and usually change it with filter in the spring, and then I'll drop and swap the oil later in the summer depending on mileage -- if I'm riding more, and the oils pretty dark I'll change it.......but I only run 1 filter a year. Street riding

Red Line 10-40...grade 5 full synthetic, the others mentioned above are grade 3 and 4's.

I just put some in my bike for the first time. I've always run rotella and mobil 1. Bike seems real smooth with the red-line.

I've been running the rotella, bc it was so cheap. I've got a lot of passes at the dragstrip with it and no issues. I'm fixing to switch to amsoil.

Motul 300v Full Synthetic 15w50 or 10w40. Almost 4 years of street riding, dynos and runs like new with 14000 on it.

Gotta agree with bigdtd.......after using Motul 300V in my 12 for 30,000 HARD miles everything looked great inside my engine including the transmission.

my bike ran smooth with redline for about 1k miles or less then it was noisier then ever... amsoil 10-40 for now on

Was the bike broken in yet before you go onto Synthetic? How many miles do you have? I wouldn't go to synthetics until you put over 1,000 miles.

and the Amsoil. Can not tell any difference. but I change oli and filter every 2500 miles as I go out of state, road trips and usually ride 6000 miles every summer, some times more.
If it's brown I dump it and go back with new filter. I still use OEM filters with every change. My 14 has the extended warranty so I keep it OEM. Not wanting a Dealer to have a excuse to not do warranty work if I tear up the engine.
