cam cover removal
replacing spark plugs, figured I should check vavles to. Will I have to pull the cam cover out of there or just lift it enough to check the valve lash?

and do I remove the pair air things on the cover to? And do you need to remove the throttle bodies like the service manual says?

No the throttle bodies stay untouched.
There is not enough space to check the lash with the cover still in the bike.
The cam cover should come out the right side of the bike fairly easy.
The pair air suction valves need to be removed , those are easy enough.
Unplug the ignition wire harness for more clearance too.

Great news, should have it off in a few min then from where im at. Thanks for the quick reply! Do I remove the crank sensor cover and go that route? or just look to see when the valves are closed?

No just check 'em when the valves are closed is good enough.

In this case yeah the picture is decieving, From an angle the filter turns black. Ill be checking the valves tomorrow. So if the plugs look good what els should I look into for causing the pinging? Like I have said, the bike did not do this for the last 16,000 miles. So I find it hard to buy that its out of tune now. ???

You'd be surprised to see what a fresh set of plugs can do... And you're changing the filter too so she'll be flowing better that ever .
Remember to check the gap on all the new plugs too cause sometimes they come out of their boxes all out of wack even though they are new.
Uneven gaps will cause all kinds of problems too.
All shops that I've seen just drop in a set of plugs without even checking them

Yeah A small one, think ill ride over the pass to this town Leavenworth WA, stay the night, then head back to Oak Harbor. I think it will be a great ride on the ninja! About 2 years ago when I had just bought my bike I rode from Houston TX to St. paul MN and back! I dont think I could have found a more boaring trip to make. Flat straight roads for thousands and thousands of miles..lol But once up there I found some real nice roads in western Wisconsin, this one road the locals called rollar coaster road was the best road ive ever ridden!!
