Passing by also :-) but are you 800?? Wow thought you were kidding. Past 450 HP
After reading about sooo many street turbo bikes being tinkered with all the time and
most all brands need top ends faster than my wallet can afford for a daily driven bike here in Texas. Only went 7000 miles last year. Most ridden to Ozark mountains. Makes you a better rider just going speed limit up there and staying in your lane..... :-) Going home 400 flat hiway miles in Heat dronong home cops everywhere. Going 60 for hours on open road is almost impossible. Turbo for this useage?? Don't know for sure..still can't afford to find out.
If you run the right fuel the shit will last, and dont to top end blasts for miles at a time, run it through the gears and shut it down ride it than rip on it again. it will last the only thing i do differently from motor to turbo is change my oil more
One of our members has a Stage 1 Muzzy set up. I think he posted he has a Lot of street miles does not mess with all the time??? 250 to 275 HP would be perfect for me, if it did not
eat top ends every summer.

if you do that I'm def gonna have to check your bike out once it's done. This doesn't have anything to do with our roll ons does it?

Not just you Shane :-) when you come over next week you will meet several other of my friends that are my size that run as good as your 14 too. I told you to install a different sprocket and you will spank the old man. We are so close and you have stock gears......... I need to hide 50 pounds under your seat :-) The last roll on in 2nd gear I was in front by a few inches :-)
I will Not have on 20 pounds of leather next time either :-) and about 1 gallon of gas :-)
Tommy's 08 Busa has -1 and +3 on his sprockets and he has won 2 out of 3 doing the 60 in second roll on like we did. No PC and slip on's....sigh. he is about your weight too. I am 240 with leather jacket and boots, etc.
Ordered a 16 tooth front to go with the new PP2CT in the 55 series taller tire. Taller tire will hurt my roll on's some.. Going to Arkansas soon. Can you get off work??? Will try to do a 3 day week end. Call me if you can go or not see ya.

Well, I just sold my sidewinder and bought one of these kits. I've been wanting a turbo bike since the beginning of time..... I'll post up some pics and stuff when I get it.

Nice, I can't wait to see the finished project. I have been thinking about those kits from time to time since I saw that thread but can't make myself pull the trigger.

I also have one of these kits packed away; maybe for next year?? From what I could tell by looking around Ebay, a new turbo will set you back $1k+.
The parts, especially the header, are nice.

Well, for an ihi dual ball bearing turbo, yes, they are about $1200. I will never buy ihi ANYTHING for $1200. The vf series turbos are OLD technology. For that kind of dough, I would get a Garrett gt28rs.

Because I'm cheap, I will probably just throw a big 16g on the bike. Like $300 shipped cheap

I promised myself I wouldn't ever buy a junk chinese turbo. I doubt these things are very good at all, but a little poking around in some wrx forums should reveal if anyone is having success with this turbo. After all, I only need 6-10psi.

Looks like some good deals there! The Garrett looks really, really nice. I think the one I was told to use was the IHI VF-22?? I can't recall...
One thing I wasn't quite clear on is that some of these turbos are water cooled...I don't think they are suitable for the bike application??
As for the Chinese stuff...well, it's not like it needs to last even 20k miles at the cost. I put about 1k miles on my bike per year!

Yes, the vf22 or vf34 is what cycle logic runs on their complete kits. They will do the job, but they are not even close to being efficient compared to todays turbos. That's why I can't justify paying that kind of money for them. I just read from a forum that the chinese turbos are junk.
Also, about the water cooling. Almost all stock turbos are water cooled for longevity, and the fact that owners rarely if ever use a turbo timer or let the turbo cool properly before shutting it off. I don't see there being any problems just plugging the water jackets and only using oil to lubricate and cool.

$1600 is a lot to pay for a turbo, though...any other cheaper alternatives?

From talking to a couple tuners and lurking in some forums, the cheapo chinese 16g has a pretty solid reputation. Several owners have years worth of use with 20ish psi. There were some incidents with low quality, and I even saw one where the shaft simply broke right in half. However, Punishment Racing (a very reputable dsm shop) sells these as a budget kit and said they hold up real well. The chinese t3/t4 stuff hasn't been good, but this is looking promising. I think I just found a timing module too....

Have you talked to anyone about the water pipes, etc?
Can this turbo make the power of a VF-22? What is it's limit?
Sounds great at the price!

This was pulled from a wrx forum
IHI VF-22 ------------ 440 CFM at 14.7 PSI
Small 16G ------------ 505 CFM at 14.7 PSI
Large 16G ----------- 550 CFM at 14.7 PSI
However, I also saw some different numbers here
IHI VF-22 ---------- 490 CFM at 18.0 PSI
Small 16G ---------- 490 CFM at 22 PSI
Large 16G --------- 520 CFM at 22 PSI
Here are some accounts....
Same day. Same dyno.
Car1 2002 WRX:
TD05-16G-7cm^2
Stock top mount IC
Catted TXS stealth with prodrive muffler
94 octane road tuned with no WBO2, Utec
Car2 2002 WRX:
VF22
TXS TMIC
Catless TXS stealth and twister3 muffler
94 octane tuned by Phil when he was at TXS, Utec
Results were with in 1 WHP of each other on the Heartbreaker at KTR Tuning. Spoolup was maybe 50rpm faster with the 16G. I think with the same mods the 16G would kill the VF22.
TMS
So, in short, the big 16g should not only flow higher numbers, but it spools just the same. That is really embarrassing for the ihi considering how old the 16g is. It's a turbo made by Mitsubishi made in the early 90s to fit on the evo 3.

Oh, about the water pipes, you don't need to run water through them. Unless something unforeseeable happens, I'll be using this turbo. It fits the bill and is the best for my application.

That dyno comparison....large or small 16G??
With that cheapo, I would just buy a spare. And still 1/2 the cost of the VF.
Sleeve bearings or ??
