Finally smoother

I was tired of the buzz in the bars and had tried many things to correct it. Today I removed the muzzy advancer set at 4 degrees that has been on for 5K miles. I also put in 5 gallons of 87. I have run 93 religiously. Then I resent the map and did the TP sensor adjustment. Shizam! I now find myself in 5th gear not feeling like I need to upshift to 6th when cruising 60-70. A real transformation. Mirrors are clear. Try it.

I see alot of you guys running 87 gas. Is there any gain in running 87 oct vs 91? I been putting 91 since the tank sticker says to run Premium and i don't think are talking about brand name gas.

Slvr Blt you just opened a can of worms with that question. I was just like you man, premium all the way. I now have 87 octane in my tank as of Saturday. Read Brocks zx14 diarys for the answer to your question. Smokin or Tnt feel free to chime in here since you are two of the three that led me to this insanity. Chad made me do it for the record.

I have slotted my timing pickup to an estimated 4 deg. I run 89 octane.

Anyone run 87 with 4 deg advance?

As long as you don't lug it I don't think 87 will be a problem. Octane is based on worst case scenario. 2up, 100 degree day etc. Resending the map probably did the most. Wouldn't 87 be like advancing the timing a little?

you want, 93 Shell for my 14. I have 55,000 trouble free miles on a modded 86 FJ1200 with 12.5 to 1 compression and I ran it the same. Street bike tuned and ridden like mine 87
in 100 degree heat in traffic ummmmm . Do what you want. Safe than sorry no ping in my 14. Drag Race trailer bike YES.

Its 70 degs and no humidity here plus there is half a can of Seafoam engine treatment in the tank too. Hot,humid day here in Tennessee no way. It is very frisky with the lower octane fuel. It took me over a year to even try 89 octane but Bawls got after me to try itand its been ping free in these conditions.1st sign of detonation and its out of there.

why would you play with timing for the 2 hp more, and potential problems like holed pitons, or beat up bottom end bearings, then try to run cheap ass fuel too.

You are asking for trouble, cause you are running shitty fuel, lower octane than Kawi recommenmds to begin with, then amplifiing that with advanced timing.

It seems really silly to me.

I think that the map reload probably did the trick.........try putting the advancer back in place and run premium in it again to see if the vibe comes back.

Following All the piggy back mod's Ivan did for his map I use for the street. Sure runs Smooth and I hold my own rolling on a 60 in 2nd gear and shift 4 times in our "Spot"
Wish I was not 235...sigh still big Fun.
