Need help on degreeing cams and thinner head gasket

going through a test run with one of my old zx14 heads. I used a thinner head gasket but when i set the cams at there stock marks i had some contact. So i stop turning the motor by hand. I read were smokin said the cams werent at the 105/105 position when using the thinner head gasket. I have everything to degree the cams but cant turn the motor due to the valve piston contact. Any advice on whats the next move. I also put on the adjustable timing gears. That may be the problem.

Move the cams till you can turn the motor ...You must be way off for the valves to hit the pistons !

A thinner head gasket would not cause that !

as per manual get #1 at TDC , get alignment marks on cams set up, then adjust.
I had to have help with mine as it would move everytime I tightened the cam adjusters and jump a tooth... that was with .050 head gasket (turbo).
Look at old gears to help with position, intake and exhaust should be closed with #1 TDC

Your problem must be the adjustable pullies because I can tell you from experience that on the standard marks, even with 28 thou skimmed off the head and using the thin 18 thou gasket, the valves still arent anywhere near hitting the pistons.

Good luck and just take it a step at a time.
